Shawn said goodbye to a long-time friend this weekend. A friend who accompanied him on a first date with a girl he would later call his wife. This friend accompanied him to celebrate several weddings and fewer funerals. This friend was with him as he welcomed new additions to friends and family. This friend rushed his own family to the hospital to welcome their first addition, Emily. This friend would once always carry extra clothes and a pack of cigarettes and now never leaves home without snacks and a variety of children's movies. This friend was dependable and always waited patiently, often in the cold and rain, for Shawn when he would venture off lone for days at a time. This friend was with him as countless memories were made with friends and family. This friend never once left him stranded or feeling insecure. After six years, 123,000 miles, five sets of tires, two batteries, over 7,000 gallons of gas, 120 quarts of oil, a few scratches and few repaired dents, it was time to say goodbye. In the words of Emily, "Where dada truck go?" "It go bye-bye?" Yes, Dada's truck went bye-bye, hopefully to create comparable memories with a new family as we seek to make new ones, this time in a sedan!
Out with the old. . .
In with the new. . .
