Emily's First Pictures

Saturday morning we went in for a 3D ultrasound.  It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but it was still really neat!  I think I was half expecting to see a perfectly clear picture of a newborn smiling and waving at me.  That's not exactly what we saw.  Emily was scrunched up into my pelvic bone and was very clearly trying to take a nap.  We saw her yawn several times during the sono.  She didn't like us disturbing her and didn't want to cooperate as she kept putting her hand or her arm right in front of her face.  After some poking of my belly though, we were finally able to see most of her face.  We saw that she definitely has Shawn's lips and we were even able to tell that she does indeed have some hair.  Seeing these few images of her just made me that much more excited for her to arrive.  I can't wait to see what she looks like in person!

Week 2 and 3 of Childbirth Class

We've had 2 more childbirth classes now.  Our second week, we learned all about labor.  We learned about the different stages of labor and how to use breathing and massage to help us with the pain.  This class just confirmed my decision to get an epidural as early as possible!  This week, we learned all about the different medical interventions.  We saw all the different monitors that will be used and many that I hope will not have to be used (i.e. forceps, vacuums).  I am glad we signed up for these classes, as it has definitely helped me prepare for what is to come.  But I won't lie, as we attend each class, the more and more nervous I get. Next week we learn about C-sections (something I hope I don't have to get) and we take the very exciting tour of the hospital.  Shawn is attending a new daddy boot camp class tonight, so I am excited to hear what all he learns.

It's Baby Shower Time!

Yesterday, 3 of my good friends, Kara, Courtney, and Stephanie, threw me and Emily a baby shower.   I had such a great time and Emily got lots of cute things!  She got her stroller, carseat, diaper bag, pack and play, bouncer, bottles, and lots of cute clothes and accessories.  Thanks girls for making it so special!!  When we got everything home, I was very overwhelmed at how much stuff we had.  Shawn was even excited as I went through everything again to show him.  Thanks everyone for coming and sharing in this exciting time!  Here are a few pictures from the shower.

First Day of Class

Shawn and I attended our first of seven childbirth classes last Wednesday.  We weren't quite sure what to expect, but at the end of the night, I think we both agreed that it was worth signing up for.  Our first class was more of an introduction.  We mainly learned about what to expect at the hospital, from pre-registration to how many nights we will stay.  Towards the end of the class we learned how to time contractions and what to do if your water breaks.  Next week we learn all about actual labor.  I signed up for these classes back in June, so I can't believe the time has come to actually take them.  It's all making it seem so much more real now!  Emily is due to arrive in only 10 weeks!

Another Healthy Checkup

Emily had another healthy checkup today.  I'm now 29 weeks and have started going every 2 weeks to see the doctor.  I love getting to hear her heartbeat at each visit.  Emily is quite active in my tummy, especially at night time!  It's making it much more difficult to sleep.  Hopefully that changes once she arrives!  Shawn and I start our childbirth classes tomorrow night, so stay tuned to hear how our first class goes.
