Emily Turns 9!

This year Emily was lucky enough to have her birthday fall on a Sunday.  All she requested for her bday was Hurts donuts for breakfast and to spend the day doing something fun, so that's just what we did.  We met all of my family at Top Golf to celebrate both Emily's and my Dad's birthdays.

She has been asking for another American Girl doll for a while now.  She wanted one with brown hair this time.

To Emily on Your 9th Birthday

Emily,

Happy 9th Birthday Emily!  Welcome to your last year in single digits.  As crazy as it sounds, you've reached the halfway mark to adult hood.  I just hope these next 9 years don't go as fast as the first 9.

This has once again been a busy year for you.  You're already half way through being done in elementary school, which is another fact I'm trying to ignore.  At the end of second grade you were diagnosed with dyslexia.  We were surprised by the testing results as you tested above grade level for reading and continue to do so.  It's your trouble with spelling that they were concerned with.  So even though you have a very mild case of it, you've started a 2 year program at school where you get pulled out for 45 min. each day.  I actually think the program has been a blessing. . .I think you've become an even stronger reader than you already were and you're getting to learn extra skills that the regular 3rd grade classes don't teach, such as cursive writing practice.  I'm proud of how much you've come to not let this define you.

This year you dropped gymnastics and decided since you enjoyed tumbling the most, that you would stick with just a tumbling class.  This summer you gave Academy soccer a try, but for no fault of your own, it just didn't work out.  I was quite disappointed with the whole process and frustrated that it left such a bad impression on all of us.  Either way, you were excited to be back with your rec team and have enjoyed playing with that team again this Fall.

You are still the sweetest girl and I'm so proud of the person you're growing up to be.  Your bubbly personality always makes me smile.  I love you sweet pea and I can't wait to see what this year has in store for you.

Love,
Mommy

Emily's 9th Birthday Party - Ice Skating

Last Saturday, we had Emily's birthday party with her friends.  She chose to have her party at an ice skating rink and afterwards declared it the best party ever.  She loves ice skating!  So glad some of her friends were able to make it out to her party.

Evan loved skating!  He had no fear.  He fell 20 times, but got right back up again each time.  No holding on to the wall for him.

Good thing I ordered the large cookie cake!  I didn't know how many people were coming when I ordered it and then had so many no rsvp's.  But the cookie cake was almost all gone at the end of the party.

Party favors.

September Little Things

It was another busy month for us!

We spent a lot of days at soccer and baseball games and practices, when they weren't rained out.

Shawn went to the Cowboys / Giants game with all the boys in my family.

When it wasn't raining, we spent some time outside.  The kids loved digging up all the slugs that the rain brought.

Shawn and Tommy took Emily and Aubrey camping 1 night over in Grapevine.  Unfortunately, Aubrey woke up sick the next morning, but up until then they had a blast.

Evan and I had a date night while Shawn and Emily were camping.  The mall and chick fil a for the win.

It was college colors one day during college week at school.

Girl scouts started back up for Emily.

And here are a few random pics to end the monthly recap.
