Happy 4th Of July!

Even though the 4th fell on a Tuesday this year, we figured it was the perfect occasion to throw a pool party.  We invited Kevin and Julie, along with our neighbors, the Fairchilds and Garrisons.  We had perfect sunny weather and took full advantage of having the pool.  I can see lots of summer pool parties in our future!

June Little Things

This post isn't going to be too long as a good chunk of our June was spent in Hawaii.  But here are a few smaller things we did during the month.

Shawn had a work trip to Jackson Hole, WY.  I could have gone with him, but with us just having gotten back from Hawaii and Emily leaving for camp the next weekend, I just couldn't make it work.  But he enjoyed the trip and said it's some place we need to go back in visit in the future.

While Em was at camp, Lauren came over to babysit Evan and Shawn and I snuck away to go see Pat Green at Lava Cantina with Tommy and Jenny.  It was definitely hot, but it was still a fun night.

Also while Em was at camp, we met up with Courtney, Grant and Caitlyn (Grace was at camp too) for dinner at Nerdvana.  I think the "youngest" kiddos had a fun time being the "only children" for the week!

Emily's Week at Pine Cove

Emily went back to Pine Cove for her 3rd summer in a row.  This is a week she looks forward to all year!  This year she was at Timbers, which is for 8th and 9th graders.  She went with her same group as last year. . .Gracie, Aubrey, Alexis and Paxton.  She liked her counselor and the other girls in her cabin too.  She said her favorite activity was the blob.  She's already talking about next summer.

Hawaii Trip - Day 9 : Ziplining

Friday was our last full day in Hawaii.  We headed out bright and early to make the hour and a half drive over to the North Shore.  We had 9:00 am reservations to go ziplining at Climbworks Oahu.  This was a last minute excursion that I added.  It just looked so fun and it certainly didn't disappoint.  In fact, it may have been the kids favorite activity that we did.  We started off with a test run on a smaller zip line then hopped in a UTV for a ride up to the top zip line.  Each line got longer and more fun.  Along the way we had some other challenges to complete. . .rope bridges and repel lines.

We headed back to the hotel in the afternoon for lunch and relaxing.  Seven rented another paddle board in the lagoon.

Every Friday night, our hotel has fireworks.  I figured a lot of people would go, but I had no idea just how many!  The beach was packed!  Shawn was lucky enough to get us a dinner reservation at a restaurant at our hotel and we got to watch the fireworks from the patio.  We had a great view.  It was such a fun way to end our trip to Hawaii.

Overall we had a great trip!  I definitely preferred Maui though and if we ever go back, I think we'd just fly over to Oahu for the day and visit the North Shore and make Maui our home base.  I'm thankful that we were able to make some fun memories as a family.  I feel like we're on borrowed time as the kids get older, so I'm definitely taking advantage of booking family trips any chance we can.
