First Day of Third Grade

Can't believe we have a big third grader in the house and she's half way through elementary school!  Time needs to just slow down a bit.

The Monday before school started, Emily found out that her home room teacher was Mr. Millhollon.  She wasn't too sure how she would like having a boy teacher, but hopefully it all works out.  This is Em's first year where she will switch teachers during the day.  Mr. Millhollon will be her teacher for reading and writing.  Then she will switch half way through the day to Mrs. Gingell's class for Science, Math and Social Studies.  Both of these teachers are new to our school, but not new to teaching.  Luckily, Em ended up with several friends in her class which she was excited about.  Not her BFF's, but still good friends.

Just like with Evan, we didn't get to walk her to her classroom on the first day this year.  Instead she got dropped off in the cafeteria and waited with her class before walking back to her classroom.

Em said the first day went well and her teachers seem nice.  Her second grade teacher was such a great one for her, I just hope these teachers can live up to that!  But, I'm sure Em will have a great year.  We celebrated the first day of school with cupcakes with friends.  Bring on 3rd grade!

First Day of First Grade

We kicked off the school year on a Thursday this year.  I think both kids were ready to start back to school and get back into a routine.  We found out Evan's teacher the Monday before school started.  He got Ms. Porter.  While she wasn't Emily's first grade teacher, she was a first grade teacher when Emily was in first grade, so she knew her.  She seems super nice and hopefully will be an awesome fit for Evan.  He didn't get in a class with any of his buddies, but I'm sure that won't stop him from making some new friends.  As he said at the end of the first day, "I know everyone in my class and they all know me."

I was sad this year that they didn't let us walk to the kids all the way to their classroom on the first day.  I'm not sure why they switched it up, but we had to drop Evan off in the gym and they walked as a class to their classroom.

At the end of the day, Evan told me that they had a fun first day. . .they didn't have to learn too much.  We celebrated the first day by meeting friends for cupcakes.  I'm hoping this will be an awesome year for Evan!!
