January was a pretty slow month for us, which was just what we needed after the busyness of the holidays. Here's what we were up to in January.
Shawn kicked off the new year by making black eyed peas. Each year he tries to tell me and the kids that we need to eat these for good luck and each year the kids and I pass. I figure he eats enough to give us all good luck. :)
The kids had a couple days off in the beginning of January before heading back to school. Shawn took them to Target to spend some of their Christmas money and Evan picked out this rock kit. The kids chipped away at the rock to find the gems. The kids loved it, but Shawn didn't love the mess it made.
Evan has been building forts in his room and choosing to sleep in them at night. For several nights, he slept all cramped up between his dresser and the wall.
After a while, he finally got bored of that and started sleeping in his bed again. He prefers to fall asleep with his lamp on and then I turn it off when I go to bed. Here's how I found him one night. He's a crazy sleeper!
We had several super cold days and built lots of fires this month. Evan loves sitting close by the fire at night.
Luckily in between the cold snaps, we did get some much welcomed warm weather. We took advantage one weekend by going to the Fort Worth Zoo.
After the zoo, we invited friends over for dinner. The kids always have a blast playing with each other.
This month the kids discovered how much they love to climb the tree in our backyard. It's not a huge tree, but the kids don't mind.
Even though Evan is 5 now, he is still the best snuggler in the house. He even fell asleep on Shawn one night.
Evan helped Shawn cook dinner one night. I'm thankful that Shawn can pass on his cooking skills to our kids because I know they aren't learning anything from me when it comes to cooking.
