March Little Things

March was quite an eventful month. . .until it wasn't!  Life was going on normally the first half of the month.  There was a little bit of talk of corona virus, but not too much.  We went to Florida for Spring break as normal and while we were there, drastic changes came.  By the time we came back, almost everything was shut down and we were all supposed to stay at home.  The kids started e-learning from home and Shawn and I both started working from home.  We had no idea how long this would last!

Emily went to a friend's birthday party while we were in Nashville.  They went to Pinstack and then had a sleepover.

Evan had a baseball scrimmage.  His season was supposed to start up the week after Spring break.  :(

It was twin day at school.  Emily and her friend, Lauren, dressed alike.

Emily had her second game of the spring season.  It was the last one she would play.  At least they finished with a win.

Evan went to his last hockey class the Monday of spring break.

Once we got back from spring break, life slowed down a lot!  Shawn created an office upstairs in our bedroom, while I setup shop in the dining room.

The kids setup shop where ever they wanted. . each with an ipad.  Lessons were sent out Monday afternoon and they had a week to complete assignments.  Evan's classwork took a couple hours each day, Em's took closer to 3-4.  I quickly learned that being a teacher while also trying to work full time from home wasn't easy.  We were all just trying our best.

The kids did a workout video this day for P.E.

Emily left this note by my bed one night.  Little did we know, it would go on much longer than a week!

We were still allowed to go outside and walk around.  We were just supposed to stay 6 feet away from people.  Our neighborhood stocked the pond, so Shawn took Evan fishing several days.

I had seen these chalk mosaics all over facebook, so Em and I decided to try it out.  We shouldn't have made it so big, it took a long time to color in.  But we loved how it turned out.  Too bad it rained that night.  :(

And while we were coloring, Shawn put Evan to work pulling weeds in the backyard.  He worked hard!

The kids had a couple of lego challenges during the day.  I gave them something to build and then Shawn picked the winner.

Since Emily couldn't go to soccer practice anymore, her coach started having soccer practices twice a week over zoom.   On top of that, they were given 3 individual workouts they had to complete throughout the week too.  It was a lot of running.  I think Em is in even better shape now!

Evan and Shawn did more work in the backyard to get it all ready for spring time.

I was running out of things to do. . so this happened.  I sorted all the kids legos by color.

More zoom soccer practices while Shawn and I enjoyed some drinks in the nice weather.

One morning the kids made a tape maze.  Shawn was actually working in the bedroom at the end of the hall, so he had fun when he wanted to come downstairs.

On google, you can view 3D animals and they appear in your house.  The kids had a blast with this.  It was like going to a zoo without the zoo!

We did a fun science experiment where the colors "walked" from jar to jar.  It worked on some of the colors.  Not sure where we went wrong with the others.

So that was our month!  I felt like we were pretty gung ho about e-learning and coming up with fun stuff in March, but by the end of the month, we were all itching for the "Stay at home" orders to come to an end.  There were so many things that we were missing out on - baseball, soccer, hockey.  First communion got cancelled for Evan.  Playdates, birthday parties with friends, etc all got put on hold.  It was such a weird time!
