Conversations With Evan

Last night I was downstairs making dinner and Evan was upstairs watching a movie.  I called up to check on him and he didn't answer, so I went upstairs.  I heard noise coming from my closet and went in to find him with his golf club, which he pretends is an ice pick that he uses to re-enact the opening scene of Frozen.

Me: "What are you doing, Bud?"
Evan: "I'm working, Mommy."
Me: "Don't you want to finish watching the movie?"
Evan: "No Mommy, I'm working."

On the way to school this morning Evan was telling me that his arm was itching. . .

Me: "Did you get a bug bite?"
Evan: "Yes."
Me: "What kind of bug bit you?"
Evan: "A Grasshopper."

..............................................................................................................................................................

Evan is all about privacy these days when he goes potty, whether it's in the bathroom or when he goes in his pull up.  One night I could tell he was going poop in his pull up.

Me: "Evan, are you going potty?
Evan: "Mommy, leave me alone please."

I looked at Shawn to see if he heard what Evan just said, but I didn't move.

Evan: "I said please."

...............................................................................................................................................................
Evan is great at making excuses!  When we ask him to clean up his toys he usually will do 1 of the following.  Lay down and say "I'm too tired"  or he will pick up something in each hand and then say,  "but my hands are full."

To Emily On Your 5th Birthday. . .

My sweet Emily,

First off, can I just say AAAAHHHH. . .how is it that you are 5 years old?!!!!!  This day is very bittersweet for me.  I feel like 5 years old means you are officially my big girl and it makes me very sad, but at the same time I am looking forward to what lies ahead for you.  When you were little I was often guilty of wanting to constantly get to the next stage.  I was just so excited to see what was next.  If I could turn back time, I would just savor all those moments instead of trying to rush through them all.  It really does all go by way too fast!  Em, you made me a Mommy and it's the most important job I will ever have.  It may be my hardest job, but definitely the one I love the most.  I always dreamed of having a little girl of my own and I couldn't have asked for a better one!  You are so special to me and I will always be there for you, no matter what!  Even though you are 5, you will always be my baby.

You are still my sensitive girl who can easily get your feelings hurt.  I definitely know where you got that trait from.  At the same time, you are my spunky and outgoing girl who doesn't shy away from attention.  I love this trait about you more than anything.  It's one that I don't have, but wish I did!  As with most girls your age, your emotions can sometimes be all over the place.  One minute you can be happy as can be and the next you can be sad or angry.  Sometimes this is so frustrating for me and your Dad, but we're working through it.  It's funny because sometimes I see so much of myself in you, I just don't want to admit it.

You are very smart and that's not just me saying that because I'm your Mom.  I've heard this over and over again from so many people.  You have the biggest imagination and I can always see the wheels in your head turning.  You want to know the why's and how's to everything.  You love to draw and your artistic abilities have really taken off this last year  I love the pictures you come home from school with. You still love dance and gymnastics.  As of now, these 2 activities seem to be your calling.  It's so fun for me to watch you excel at them and see how proud you are when you accomplish something new.

You start Kindergarten this year and I think that's why this birthday is even harder for me to accept. It's just one more sign that you are growing up.  As much as I would love to keep you little, you always tell me that you do in fact have to grow up.  So to my big 5 year old, I hope you have your most special birthday yet and you know just how loved you are.  I love you, my sweet pea, and can't wait to see what the next year has in store for you.

Love,
Mommy

Merit Trick or Treating / Primrose Fall Festival

We had a busy day on Friday.  Each year my company does a trick or treating event for all the employee's kids.  You can see previous years here. .2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.  Both of my kids love it and I look forward to bringing them up to my office.  Em was a little shy at first, but Evan wasn't the least bit.  He was super excited to be dressed as Olaf and went up to each person and announced "I'm Olaf."  He had the trick or treating thing down and couldn't wait to fill his bag up with candy.  I had to stop him a few times from taking candy out of the other trick or treater's bags.

The kids with my friends daughter, Haleigh.

We saw lots of Elsa's, but I was surprised that Evan was the only Olaf.

My friend's other daughter, Brynleigh.
After a quick dinner at home, we headed back up to the kids school for their annual Fall festival.  It's a fun event with games and trick or treating.

My little Elsa.  She has Elsa shoes, but wearing them to my office gave her blisters, so we stuck with some silver flats for the fall festival.

Normally I'm not big on the character costumes, but they both really love Frozen and each were so excited about their costumes.

2014 Family Pictures

Back at the end of September we had some family pictures taken.  They are Evan's 2 year old pics and Em's almost 5 year old pics.  We used a new photographer this year, a friend of my sister in law's.  I'm really happy with how they turned out.  I was a bit worried after the session since Evan is not at all into sitting still for pictures, but I think they look great.

Be forewarned of picture overload.  It was too hard for me to narrow them down!

One of my favs!

Another fav!

The photographer brought a step stool for her to stand on for some pics.  Evan loved it and just wanted to sit on it.  Of course some of the best pis of him would be just sitting on the step stool (oh and with his mouth full of goldfish. . haha)

The photographer brought some paper airplanes for us to play with at the end of the shoot.  The kids loved them.
