Evan's Big Boy Room

Well, we finally did it!  We kicked Evan out of his crib this past weekend and haven't looked back.

For several months now, I've been talking to him about moving to a big boy bed and he always tells me that he just wants to stay in his crib forever.  With him sleeping so well in it, it was hard to say no to that.  But I knew with him about to turn 3, that it was time.  Shawn and Evan went to the mattress store Saturday morning and by Saturday afternoon we had a mattress delivered to the house!  Shawn told me Evan could have cared less about the mattress when they were at the store, but boy was he excited when it got delivered!  I reluctantly told Shawn that we should just make the switch on Saturday, so he had a few nights in it before having to go back to school.   Watching Shawn take apart the crib was a bit emotional for this mama.  It wasn't hard at all for me when we moved Emily, but man, this time was really hard.  After all, there's a chance this might be the last time we ever have a crib in our house.  I pretty much fought back tears the entire time Shawn changed it to a big bed.

One last look at his baby room.

Daddy had lots of helpers.

We couldn't keep him off his bed!

We got his bed all changed over and finished up the decorating on Sunday and Monday.   I love how it all turned out.  I think I might still want a rug for the floor, but that can come later.

One of my favorite parts of his room now.  This is a pinterest project that Shawn made for me. . .rain gutter shelves!

Overall Evan has done really well in his bed.  The first night he came out once around 4:00 am because he wanted some water, but that was it.  The other 2 nights he didn't come out at all until he woke up in the morning.  Naps have gone equally as well.  I'd say he's done even better than Emily did when we transitioned her.  Of course he's almost 6 mos. older than she was.

All tucked in for his first night.  He looks so little in his big bed.

I can't believe my baby is growing up.  Slowly, but surely all the baby items are leaving the house.

School Pictures - Spring 2015

We got the kids school pictures back.  I think these are the best ones they have ever taken.

Evan - EPS2 - 2.5 years old

Emily - Pre-K 2 - 5 years old

Emily also took graduation pictures.  They aren't my favorite, but still had to get some for her memory box.  :)

My Soon To Be Kindergartener

When we took Em to her 5 year old well visit, there were a few things Dr. G said Em should know before starting Kindergarten - her address, her birthday and her phone number.  She knew bits and pieces of each of these ( ie. her b-day month and day, but not the year and also her street name, but not number or city), but needed some work to get it all down.  I really also wanted her to learn to tie her shoes.  I thought some motivation might be in order, so I told her once she learned these 4 things, we would buy her the wedding barbie set.  It's something she's been wanting for months now.

It didn't take long at all for her to memorize her birthday and her full address.  It took a little longer for her to memorize my phone number, but she finally got it down.  The last thing on the list was to tie her shoes.  I had tried teaching her myself, but it was going no where.  After several months, she eventually learned on her own from practicing at school.  She still needs some practice to get the laces tighter, but that will come with time.

I'm so proud of my soon to be Kindergartner!  She worked hard to learn these things and she has earned her Barbie wedding set.  :)

Scenes From Our Weekend

We ended up having a pretty fun and busy weekend and I took several pics, so I thought I would share.

Saturday
Saturday morning started off just like every other Saturday.  I took Evan to swim lessons and Shawn took Emily to gymnastics.

After swim, Evan and I ran to Target to pick up a few things and then headed home for lunch and nap.  Shawn and Em went straight from gym, over to Grapevine to celebrate our nephew, Mason's, birthday.  We didn't think Evan would make it since it was right during naptime.  He still relies too heavily on his nap.

He insisted on carrying the basket for me.

His favorite aisle. . .the vacuums.

He also wanted to carry the bag out.

Shawn and Em got home around 3:00 and by 3:30 I was out the door to meet my friend, Courtney, for some girl time.  We went to Dry Bar and got blowouts.  It was the first time either of us had been.  I thought it was fun.

Shawn and Grant met us with the kids around 5:30 for dinner at Benihana.  Em had been there before, but this was Evan's first visit.  He loved it.  He was so excited when the chef was cooking the food.  After dinner, the boys and the kids headed home and Court and I decided to stay out and grab a few drinks.  It was nice to have some much needed girl time.  :)

I'm saving this one for the wedding video.   Aren't they so cute!

Sunday
We were up bright and early Sunday morning and decided to make the most of the sunshine by heading off to the zoo.  We hadn't been in a while and the kids had been asking when we could go again.  We had a great time.  We stayed 2 hours and walked the entire zoo.  This was the first time we made it through the whole place in one trip.  The kids just don't like to stay in one place too long, so that helped us see things quickly.  They had a dinosaur live exhibit that was really neat.  The kids were both scared of them though.  I think they thought they were real.   We also got to see the new baby giraffe that was born last month.

Up close and personal with the gorilla

The baby giraffe.  So cute!

Not so sure about the dinosaurs.

After the zoo, we stopped for lunch at the Katy Trail Outpost in Plano.  I had never been before, but Shawn had.  We sat on the giant patio and the kids had the best time.  I'm not sure Evan sat for more than a few minutes the whole time we were there.  He was up dancing and playing.

We headed back to the house for naps.  All of us, except Em, took a much needed nap.  Then Shawn headed to the grocery store while I picked up the house and did laundry.  When Shawn got home we took the kids outside to play and Shawn grilled out.  We ate dinner outside as well.   After all the rain, I wanted to soak in as much sunshine as we could!

Overall, it was the perfect mix of a busy, but relaxing weekend.  There's a chance of rain all week, but I'm so glad we finally had a sunny weekend.
