2020 Year In Review

2020. . .I don't even know where to begin.  If you told me 2020 was going to bring everything that it did, I would have laughed.  It was a year unlike any other year.  It was a year that I hope will be unlike any other year.  A year that started off with so much potential, quickly turned into a year that we all couldn't wait to be over.  Here's a look back at everything we did this year:

January:

We kicked off the new year with a trip to Top Golf.

After lots of hard work, Evan competed in the Pinewood Derby race for Boy Scouts.

Emily's soccer team finished in first place of a tournament.

February:

Evan got moved from Pre-Hockey to Hockey Academy.  The last step before getting to join a team.

Shawn, Papa and Uncle Kevin took Evan to the Allen Americans hockey game.

Shawn and I took a quick weekend trip to Nashville.

March:

Evan has his first and last baseball scrimmage of the season.

We took a trip to Destin for Spring Break.

Covid hit and everything shut down.  Shawn and I started working from home and the kids started virtual school.

We spent a lot of time outside.

Em did hours of zoom soccer practice.

April:

We spent the entire month quarantined at home.

We celebrated Easter at home. . .alone, with no family.

Shawn and the kids all got quarantine haircuts.

May:

We spent another month mostly quarantined at home and social distancing when we did venture out.

Shawn and Evan went camping at Turner Falls.

We spent a lot more time outside.

The kids finished up the school year.

June:

Things finally started to open back up a bit in June.

Evan turned 8 and we celebrated by staying at the Hilton Anatole for the weekend.

The kids spent a ton of time exploring the creek in our neighborhood.

Both kids went to camps - Emily went to strength and conditioning camp and Evan went to golf camp.

We went on vacation with the Westhoff's and Garrison's to Austin and San Antonio.

Emily's soccer team was in a tournament and placed second after the final game got rained out.

July:

We celebrated 4th of July at Uncle Scott's and then went to see fireworks.

Evan did lots more fishing.

Emily signed with the Renegades for another year of soccer.

Emily's soccer team was busy!  They were in the King Tut tournament and finished in 1st place.  They also went through Lake Highlands Qualifying and made it into Division 2.  They celebrated with a party.

August:

The kids started 3rd and 5th grade.  They had to do virtual school for the first 3 weeks.

The kids competed in a spaghetti sauce cooking contest.

Emily had another soccer tournament - in the HOT weather.

Shawn started demo on the kids bathroom.

September:

We had contractors come and finish the kids bathroom - well, most of it.

Shawn took the kids hunting on Uncle Scott's lease over Labor Day Weekend.

The kids finally started in person school.

After a 6 month delay, Evan made First Communion.

October:

Shawn went on a fishing trip to Galveston with her cousin, William.

Emily turned 11!

The kids went trick or treating with the Garrison's.

November:

Emily celebrated her birthday with sleepover.

Emily competed in a 4v4 Halloween tournament.

Emily's team competed in the League Challenge cup and won their first gold medal.

We celebrated Thanksgiving over at Mimi and Papa's.

We took family pictures.

December:

Emily had her first out of town tournament in Austin.  They came home the winners.

Emily's team participated in a community service event.

Evan stayed the weekend at KK's while Em and I were in Austin.

Shawn finished the kids bathroom.

We celebrated Christmas.

We took a last minute road trip to Big Bend National Park after cancelling our trip to AZ.

We spent New Year's Eve with the Garrison's.  We couldn't wait to say goodbye to 2020.

2020 was a year I hope we never repeat.  Although it was tough to be quarantined, there were some good things that came from this year.  We were forced to slow down a bit and got to spend lots of quality family time.   With that said, I'm hope 2021 brings back a bit more normalcy.
