First Day of (Virtual) 5th Grade!

Just like Evan, Emily kicked off the school year virtually.  I'm so sad that this is how she's starting her last year of elementary school.  There are so many special things the 5th graders normally get to do and it seems like all of that is being taken away this year. I know it's small in the big scheme of things, but right now they seem big.

Emily got Mrs. Moros for her home room teacher and Mrs. McCormick for her switch teacher.  She was happy with both of her teachers.  She's not in a class with any of her besties, but I know that just gives her the opportunity to meet new friends.  She never has trouble in this area.

Hopefully it's just 3 weeks virtually and then in person classes.  She can't wait for school to start back in person.  She's so social that she's struggling the most with being stuck at home.

First Day of (Virtual) 3rd Grade

Evan started 3rd grade today. . .virtually!  It's definitely not the way we were hoping to start off the school year, but it is what it is.  The kids will be going virtually for 3 weeks and then will hopefully start back in person.

Evan's 1st grade teacher, Ms. Porter, moved to 3rd grade last year and Evan was lucky enough to get her for his teacher this year.  He's so excited!  She's pretty great.  Since so many kids decided to go virtual all year, he only has 14 kids in his class this year.  5 boys and 9 girls.  Normally, 3rd graders have a switch teacher, but with Covid they have decided not to do that.  So Evan's teacher will teach him all subjects this year.

July Little Things

We've survived another month staying close to home.  The theme in July was soccer, soccer and more soccer.  Em spent a lot of time playing it and we spent a lot of time watching it.  Here are all the little things we were up to this month:

Emily thought it would be fun to put all of her scrunchies in her hair at the same time.  This girl is a total goof ball.

For the 4th of July, we went over to Scott and Stephanie's house to swim and then came back in time to go watch fireworks.

July 1st was soccer signing day, which just meant we pretty much turned over our life savings to pay for another year of soccer.  But Em was excited to have made her same team for another year. They celebrated with a signing day party a few days later.

Emily had a week of two-a-day practices and the week ended with a scrimmage against her '10's team, which happens to be her friend, Gracie's team.  They were excited to play each other.

Evan has loved going fishing lately.  He got a new pole from Papa Mike for his birthday and him and Shawn have been going down to the neighborhood pond to fish.  One night their friends joined them.

Just a random picture of Em trying on a new mask I bought her.  Never thought this would be the norm now when we go places.

Em's soccer team competed in the King Tut tournament to prepare for the Lake Highlands Qualifying tournament.  They ended up winning their bracket.  Too bad this was just a friendlies tournament, so no winners or medals.

Can't resist taking a picture of this sweet boy when he falls asleep on the couch at night.

Evan got to move up to the next rank in Cub Scouts.  He's now a Bear.  They had a little crossover ceremony for all the boys.

Found a couple of random pics of Em and her friend Gracie.

Emily's soccer team has been working hard all summer to be ready for the Lake Highlands Qualifying tournament.  It's this tournament that decides whether they got to play in the Lake Highlands Girls Classic league - the one all the soccer teams want to be in.  There were 14 teams trying out for Em's age group and only 5 teams made it.  Em's team was one of them!  They made it into Division II of the league.  It was a super stressful tournament and I couldn't wait for it to be over.  But we were all so proud of the girls.

The girls got to celebrate getting into the GCL with a party at the Lagoon.

We went out to dinner with the Garrisons one night and the kids ended up running into Aubrey and her friend.  They all had a blast running around while we ate.  Then we came back and hung out at the Garrison's house for a bit.

Told you, lots of soccer!  Evan is excited about August because hockey finally starts back up!  School also starts in August. . not in person, but virtually.  We'll see how that goes.
