Swim Lessons for Evan

Back in January,  Evan started back up in swim lessons.  Since he had a bit of a rough go, last spring, I decided to have him repeat the 3 year old beginner class (he took this class as a 2 year old last year).  The first month of classes it went great.  I kept thinking, it's crazy what a difference a year makes.  He was so hesitant and scared last year and the first few lessons this child had no fear.  From the first lesson he was jumping out the teacher and going under the water.  His teacher said they normally don't do that so soon, but since Evan was wanting to, he let him.  I was so glad to see that his confidence was higher this year!  Another big first for him was going down the big water slide at the end of class.  Every class last year, Evan would climb the ladder, but then chicken out and not go down the slide.  This time he loved the slide.

So fast forward to a month later. . .all of a sudden Evan is terrified of the pool again.  :(  He cries saying he doesn't want to do lessons.  He says he's so afraid to have to jump in off the side because he thinks he is going to sink.  I have no idea what switched in his head, but I'm so sad.  I'm hoping this is just a short term mind game that he needs to get over!  I don't know if I can take another semester of him crying during lessons!  He sure is a different child than Emily!  Stay tuned to hear if it gets better or not. . .

Spring Soccer Has Started

Another season of Doodlebug soccer has started. Em is having to get used to practice and games in the colder weather!

Off to practice.  Shawn sent this picture to me and told me she looked too old!

Her first game was a week ago.  I forgot how much I enjoyed watching her play.  I could see quite a bit of improvement even from the end of last season.  She's getting much better at dribbling the ball.  Her whole team played a great game and won 7-1.  Emily scored 2 of the goals.  Soccer might just be this girl's sport.  She can run fast and has no problem being aggressive and going after the ball.

We lucked out with weather during her second game.  It was super windy, but nice and warm. Soccer in February isn't so bad in this weather.  Em played another great game.  They won 9-7 and Emily scored 2 goals.

President's Day

Emily was off from school this past Monday for President's Day.  She was originally supposed to go to Mimi's house, but Shawn decided to take off at the last minute so she stayed with him instead.  They had quite the jam packed day!

Breakfast at Original Pancake House

Dropped my car off at the shop and picked up a rental car. . .a big truck

At the movies to see Kung Fu Panda 3

Met Uncle Scott for lunch in Grapevine

Met Uncle Kevin, Lauren, and Natty at Top Golf

Finally back at home to play outside

I'm not sure Em will ever want me to stay home with her on a holiday over Shawn.  I don't think I could compete with this day.

Happy Valentine's Day

The kids kicked off their Valentine's day festivities last Friday with their school parties. We had prepared for them earlier in the week by putting together valentine's for their friends and Emily had to decorate a box too.  I attended both parties, but only took 1 picture at Evan's.

Em was filling out her valentine's and she said, "I feel like I'm signing autographs!"

Valentine's for their friends at school.

We totally cheated and bought a kit from Target.  I felt bad about it until I realized how many other parents did the same thing!  Totally the way to go.

Sunday morning the kids woke up to some goodies from Shawn and I.  Late morning we met our friends, the Gists, over at Mexican Sugar for brunch.

Conversations With Emily

Em: "Mom, did they have colors back in the 80's or was everything brown back then because it was so old.
Me: "What do you mean?  Like how everything was black and white at the beginning of the Wizard of Oz movie?"
Em: "Yeah, back in the 80's was everything black, white and brown?"
Me: "Um, nope, there were definitely colors back then.  The 80's wasn't that long ago.  I was born in the 80's."
Em: "Really?  The 80's were a really long time ago."

Daddy / Daughter Dance

Last Saturday, Emily and Shawn went to their 3rd Daddy/Daughter dance.  Each year, the city of Frisco puts on this dance and it's something Emily looks forward to every year.  She loves getting dressed up and having her Daddy to herself all night.  Just like the previous years, they went with 2 of Emily's friends. . Aubrey and Bellsie.  Shawn said all the girls had a blast dancing and afterwards, they all went out to dinner at Benihana's.

Evan and I had a date night of our own.  When he woke up from his nap, I told him we could go eat dinner wherever he wanted.  He chose chick-fil-a, so that's where we went.  He really wanted to play on the playground, but since he wore his crocs and had no socks, I convinced him to pass on the playground and instead to go pick up cupcakes.  He compromised with me and said he'd get cupcakes in lieu of playing on the playground, but he wanted to eat them at the cupcake place and not at home.  Who was I to argue with him. . so that's just what we did.  Afterwards we went back home and he took a long bubble bath with green water (he wanted to use the color tablets) and then we built a fort out of his bricks.  It's not often that I get to spend one on one time with Evan, but I truthfully had so much fun with him.  When I'm not having to get on to him for not listening, I realized he's actually a really fun kid.  Ha.

100th Day of School

Last Wednesday, Emily celebrated the 100th day of school.  Each child was asked to either dress up like a 100 year old or make your own shirt using 100 items.  I really wanted Em to dress up like a 100 year old, but she chose the shirt option.  I gave her lots of choices and she decided she wanted to put 100 heart stickers on her shirt.

At school they did all kinds of fun activities to celebrate the 100th day. . .made a crown with 100 fingerprints, wrote a story about what they thought they would be doing when they were 100 years old, etc.  It sounds like it was a fun day.
