Flashback Friday. . .Our Wedding (Reception)

We had our reception at the Belo Mansion in downtown Dallas.  I loved everything about it!

One of my favorite pictures.  My dad was giving a speech and got a bit choked up, so my mom got up and grabbed the microphone from him.

Conversations With Emily

Yesterday morning after I finished getting all ready for work, I came downstairs and found Em laying down on the couch.

Em: "Mommy, I don't feel good."
Me: "What's wrong Em, what doesn't feel good" (as I'm silently thinking, oh great, Em got what Evan had last week)
Em: "Well. . . I have a boo-boo on my finger." (as she proceeds to show me)
Me: "Oh no, how about it we put a band-aid on it, will that make it feel better?" (as I'm breathing a sigh of relief!)
Em: "Yes, that will make me feel better."

A Couple More Firsts For The Books

Unfortunately, one was a first I was not looking forward to. . .Evan's first illness.  Starting Thursday night, Evan was running a fever and had thrown up.  Shawn took him to the dr. Friday afternoon and they think he had some kind of stomach virus.  :(  Poor guy spent most of the day Friday just sleeping.  He was on pedialyte most of the day to help give his stomach a bit of a break.  Luckily by about Saturday afternoon all symptoms went away.  He's still not eating great and has been a bit fussier than normal at bedtime, but I'm hoping it's short lived.  Oh the joys of daycare.  Only took about 3 weeks of being at school before he got sick.  :(  Unfortunately, I know this is just the beginning.

The other first, a much better one, was that Evan laughed for the first time on Saturday!  He was starting to finally feel better and he was just smiling away at me and I started laughing and next thing I knew, he laughed too!  I was super excited.  I love smiles, but I love laughs even more.

Guess Who. . .

. .. slept for 8 hours last night??  Evan did!  Yay!!  We put him down at 8:30 and he slept until 4:45.  Of course, I would prefer him to sleep until at least 5:30 (when Shawn and I get up), but I'll take it!  I think technically 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep is considered sleeping through the night.  Last night was the first time I gave him 5 oz. before bed.  I'm hoping that is what made all the difference and this is a trend that will continue!!

. . .is starting to get ezcema?  Evan.  :(  I was really hoping he wouldn't get this.  We asked the dr. at what month would we know we were in the clear and he said it usually appears by the 4th month.  And just like with Em, Evan's started up right after he turned 3 months.  I hate that he has this!  We still struggle keeping Em's ezcema under control and now we've got 2 kids that have to deal with this.  :(  Boo!

My Little Boy

Conversations With Emily

I was getting the kids ready for school this morning and called Evan, my little man. . .

Em : "He's not a man."
Me: "He's my little man, just like you're my little lady."
Em: "Well, you're my little chicken and I'm your cock-a-doodle do"

An Unexpected Visitor

On Thursday night, Shawn and I went to Em's open house at school.  Mimi and Papa came over to watch the kids for us.  As we were walking Mimi and Papa out, we heard a rustling sound in the corner of the office. I proceeded with Emily to walk Mimi and Papa to the car while Shawn investigated. Shawn described what happened next as a cross between the bat scene out of The Great Outdoors and the squirrel scene from Christmas Vacation. As he reached the corner of the office, a sparrow launched from the floor, flying out at him! After a quick circle around the office and entry way, the bird headed up stairs! Lily must have know the bird was in the house long before we did, because she was hot on his trail up the stairs. You would have thought there was a lion running around upstairs with all the commotion.

Shawn followed them upstairs only to find feathers all over Emily's room! What a mess! There was a pile of feathers on the floor, pictures knocked off her nightstand and feathers all over her dresser. He assumed then that Lily had captured the bird, by the amount of feathers on the floor. Shawn came downstairs to report the crime, but there was no sign of Lily or the bird. He assumed Lily took the bird to a dark corner. I kept Em downstairs, while Shawn went up to investigate only to realize Lily did not kill the bird, instead she just chased it into our room and back to Em's room, where she eventually trapped it under Em's bed.  Shawn opened the window in Em's room in hopes of chasing it out, but the bird never came close. At this point Em seemed to actually enjoy having a bird in the house. Luckily Shawn was able to catch the bird using Tupperware. Shawn and Em were able to release it back outside.

Shawn began cleaning Emily's room so she could finally go to bed. We were up about an hour past her bed time at this point. She was exhausted and wanted nothing to do with Lily exploring in her room. Needless to say, Lily spent the rest of the night pacing behind a closed door outside of Emily's room waiting for her opportunity to get back in and find her "toy". It was definitely an interesting way to end our night.

This picture doesn't really do the scene justice, especially when you see the size of the bird.  The poor thing must have lost the majority of it's feathers.

You can't see the bird in this pic, but Lily is staring it down.

Poor bird must have been scared to death.

Free at last!

I Just Have To Brag For A Minute

Today, when Shawn picked Emily up from school, one of Em's old teachers stopped him and pulled him aside.  She was observing Em in class today and just wanted to let him know how well Em is doing.  She said she's very advanced with her language skills.  She told him, not only does she speak very well, but the words that she chooses to use are very advanced.  Shawn said on his way out, both the assistant director and director also pulled him aside to tell him the same thing.  Em has been able to carry on long drawn out conversations very clearly, for a long time now.  And just the other day when she was looking in the mirror, she was talking about seeing her reflection (a word I was surprised she knew).  I know as parents we might sometimes be biased and like to always think our child is extremely smart and advanced, but to hear it from someone else is awesome!  I'm so proud of my girl!  :)

Three Months

Evan (my little man),

You are 3 months old today!  WOW!  There are sometimes that I can't remember what life was like without you.  You are the perfect addition to our family!  This has been a huge month of firsts for you.  You slept in your crib for the first time, went on your first trip, rode on your first airplane and went to school for the first time!  I love celebrating all these firsts with you, but I'm not ready for them all to have come so soon.  I wish I could just freeze time!

This month marked the last month of our Mommy/Son time at home.  I have loved every minute of my 12 weeks at home with you!  It's something that I am so thankful that I got and will always cherish that one on one time I had with you.  The time came though for me to go back to work and therefore, your time to go to school arrived.  I know going to daycare is tough on you and you're still adjusting, but having been through it all with your sister, I know it's the best path for you (and for me too).  It doesn't mean that I don't miss you like crazy when I'm at work! You and your sister are on my mind at all times!

You have discovered your hands and feet this month and you could sit and stare at them for hours!  You love to chew on your hands.  I keep trying to fight this habit with the pacifier, but you seem to be winning.  Unless you are in the right mood, the pacifier just pisses you off!  So I usually end up giving in and letting you have your hands.  :)  You love to blow bubbles and are quite the drooler now too.

You are still my little snuggle bug and love to be held (and walked).  I'm trying to enjoy this time as I know it doesn't last forever.  Now that you are sleeping in your room, we spend lots of time snuggling and rocking in your room.  I'm proud to say that I'm still your favorite person (although sister is quickly closing in on me).  I can always get smiles out of you and calm you down when you are fussy.

You have started a fun new thing this month - crying in the car.  :(  Makes for some long car rides!!  I just don't think you like being restrained.  And it's always worse when you are tired.  You continue to fight going to sleep (at home and at school) which causes lots of fussing!

You still aren't a good eater.  Dr. G said we can't expect you to start sleeping through the night until you start drinking 5-6 oz in each bottle.  We're still lucky if we can get you to eat 4 oz.  Your sister was the same way.   I'm not sure if you still aren't a big fan of the formula or you just don't have a big appetite.  But for having only 3-4 oz. you are doing pretty well at night.  I can usually get a 6 hour stretch out of you.  We put you down around 8:30 or so and you will usually wake up around 2:30 and then again at 6:00.  We're still swaddling you at night, but I'm not sure how much longer that will last.  Once you wake up, you wiggle your hands free.

You still love tubby time and your changing table.  Those 2 places continue to be your happy places!  I know you will always calm down and give us smiles then.

Going to school has been an adjustment for you.  You aren't used to all the noise and have trouble sleeping when there is so much going on.  When you hear other babies cry it usually makes you cry.  You're also having to adjust to not being held all the time.  When you would cry at home, I would just pick you up, but at school that's not always possible.  So you're learning.

It's been a fun month, little man.  I can't wait to see what the next few bring.  We love you more than you will ever know!!
