To Evan On Your 5th Birthday

Dear Evan,

You've officially turned 5 and now fill up 1 whole hand.  Turning 5 means that you are headed to Kindergarten this year!  I say it every year, but it really has gone by so fast.

You've said goodbye to Primrose after almost 5 years and now you are staying home this summer.  I was a little hesitant on how this go, but so far, so good.  You learned a lot this year at school.  They tell me you are more than ready for Kindergarten, so I hope they are right.  I know you are a bit nervous about starting Kindergarten though because new situations tend to make you a bit timid.  But I know once you get a couple weeks under your belt, you will love it.

This has been a bit of a rough year for you.  You can be such a sweet little boy one moment and another moment, you can be screaming and throwing a fit over us asking you to clean up your toys.  You really have been pushing your limits lately and I sure hope this is a phase that will be over soon!  There are times that I  feel like I'm failing as a parent when it comes to you.  Let's just say I'm very much looking forward to turning the chapter on this phase!

You continue to love legos, building things with tools and playing outside.  Driving your jeep continues to be a favorite.  You've told me you don't have to learn to ride a bike because you can drive everywhere, but I'm hoping that will change.  You still collect little things and your most recent fave is collecting money.  You love to empty your piggy bank and put all your coins in different containers around the house.  So much so, that we've had to hide your piggy bank!  I've never met a child that loves money as much as you do.

You love to make people laugh by being silly.  You tend to march by the beat of your own drum.  It doesn't bother you to wear mix matched clothes or that boys aren't supposed to carry purses.  :)  I love that about you!  You love getting to spend one on one time with me and your Daddy.

You played soccer for the first time this past year and even though you don't love it, you are continuing it for at least 1 more season since you're now on a neighborhood team with kids you'll go to school with.   We are going to sign you up for T-ball in the Fall as well, so we'll see how you like that.

It's been a good year Bud and I can't wait to see what's in store for you in the year ahead!   To my silly, fun loving boy who still gives the best snuggles, I hope you have the best 5th birthday ever!  I love you so much, little man!

Love,
Mommy

Evan Turns 5!

We had such a fun day celebrating Evan's 5th birthday.  Both Shawn and I took off work so we could celebrate him all day long!

Evan started the day off with donuts for breakfast.  Then we headed out early to go get Evan's birthday present.  Shawn and I wanted to buy him a bike, but we wanted to let him pick it out and try it first to make sure we got him the right size.

After he picked out his bike, we headed to Hawaiian Falls.  It's a smaller water park just down the street from us.  We've never been before, so we were all excited to try it out.  We got there right when it opened at 10:30 and grabbed a few chairs right by the main kids area.  The kids played there for a bit before we hit up the few slides they were tall enough to ride.  They were slides that you rode on with tubes.  Shawn and Evan rode together and Em and I rode together.  They were pretty fun! We also hit up the lazy river and the wave pool.  I think the wave pool may have been Evan's favorite part.  We stayed for about 2.5 hours before heading out.  We could have stayed longer, but it was starting to get a bit more crowded and the kids had done everything at least twice but now.

Evan requested Whataburger for lunch, so that's what we did. We picked it up and brought it home to eat.  Then Evan passed out for a 2.5 hour nap!  We finally woke him up so he'd sleep that night.  Guess the water park wore him out!

After nap time, we took the kids over to the trails that run between our neighborhood and the one next to ours so Evan could try out his new bike and Em could ride her scooter.  We followed that up with some time at the playground before heading out to a new restaurant to have a late dinner.

We finished up the night with cupcakes and ice cream at home.  I think Evan had a pretty good 5th birthday!

Evan's 5th Birthday Party - Obstacle Warrior Kids

On Sunday, Evan had his birthday party with his friends at Obstacle Warrior Kids in McKinney.  It's has obstacles just like on the show, Ninja Warrior, but kid size.  We kept it small with mainly just the kids from his soccer team and his friend, Grace.  His bestie, Dani, was out of town, and we didn't invite any other friends from Primrose since he's not going there anymore.

I think all the kids had fun and I know it wore my kids out.  They played for almost 2 hours straight, with just a quick break for cupcakes and ice cream.  Both of my kids were so sweaty when we left!  I hardly had to do anything for the party except provide the food, which made it super easy!

I was terrible about taking any posed pics. . .but got lots of action shots.

Evan could only get to the top of the wall with a boost to help him.

We let Em invite a friend to play with.  This is one of her bestie's, Alexis.

Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony

This past Sunday Emily bridged from Daisies to Brownies.  The original plan had been to do this outside over an actual bridge and then go swimming afterwards, but with all the rain we've had lately, it had to be moved inside.  So instead we all went to Jumpstreet for their end of year party and they walked on a makeshift bridge.  :)  The girls were totally fine with this!

Saying Goodbye to Primrose

After almost 7.5 years of having kids go to Primrose, we're saying goodbye!  It's a little bittersweet.  My kids have grown up at this school so it's kind of sad this chapter is coming to a close, but at the same time so much has changed about the school since we started (not in a good way), that it makes it much easier to leave.  We're moving on to bigger and better things now!  My cousin, Cameron, is going to nanny for our kids this summer and then both kids will be at the elementary school in the Fall.

I can't help but take a look back at all the kids first days at Primrose. . .

Last Day of 1st Grade

Em finished up 1st grade on Friday. This has been a great year for Em.  She loved her teacher this year and has learned so much!  She's slowly getting more confident in her reading skills and also made even more new friends.  She's totally ready for second grade!

They had a fun end of year party planned, complete with water slide and snowcones.  But half way through the part, it started pouring.  Here's a quick picture of her class soaking wet from the rain.

Emily teacher, Mrs. Wilcox.   Emily loved her teacher and was so sad to find out she's moving to a different school next year.  So now her kinder and 1st grade teacher will be gone.  :(
