OKC Hockey Tournament

Evan's hockey team went to Oklahoma City for a tournament for his first ever out of town tournament.  Shawn and Evan drove up on Friday and got back on Sunday.  They didn't get the outcome they were hoping for.  They ended up in 3rd place.  But he had such a great time hanging out with his teammates.

ACL / Meniscus Surgery

Em had a soccer game in the middle of September and about 10 minutes into the game, she hurt her knee.  She was running and stopped suddenly and heard a pop.  She couldn't put any weight on it.  Shawn and I took her to the ER and they did x-rays and confirmed nothing was broken, however, they were worried she tore a ligament.  After an MRI the next week, it was confirmed she tore her ACL and meniscus.  It was hard news to hear.  She would need surgery to repair both ligaments and because of all the PT that she would need after, she would miss her school season and the rest of her club season.  It's estimated that it will be 9 months until she can practice and a year before she can play in games.

She had surgery on October 1.  The first week after surgery was rough.  She was in a lot of pain, even being on round the clock meds and the day of surgery she had a lot of nausea.  It was super tough on her having to rely on others for just help in getting around.  She spent 3 weeks on crutches and was in a brace for another week and a half.  Going back to school just 6 days after surgery was also rough, but she had so much help from friends.  She started PT just 3 days after surgery and will continue going 2 times a week for 6 months.  Each week there have been small gains.  She's working on getting the full extension back in her leg as well as be able to fully bend it.  It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint, but we're hopeful she'll come back even stronger and will be back on the soccer field before we know it!

After her surgery she had so many friends and family stop by with gifts for her!  Her soccer team brought her a huge gift basket, along with buying us dinner that night.
