6 Month Well Visit

Shawn is out of town on a golf trip with my Dad and brother, so I took Emily myself over to see Dr. G for her 6 month well-visit.  Here are her stats:
Weight: 14 lbs, 2 oz (20-25%)
Height: 25.3 in. (50%)
Head: 16.3in. (25-50%)
Unfortunately, this visit turned more into a sick visit, then a well-visit.  She has double ear infections and an eye infection.  :(  So he gave us prescriptions for antibiotics and eye drops.  Hopefully, we can get those cleared up soon!  Developmentally, she's right on track.  I asked him about her ezcema because she seems to be itching like crazy and he said it could be worse because of her infections.  But if it gets real bad, we are able to give her some Benadryl.  He also said we can try stopping the Zantac now for her acid reflux and see how she does.  I guess the dose we've been giving her is really low compared to her weight, so if it hasn't flared up with her being on such a low dose, we're probably okay to just stop it.  We'll try and see how it goes.   She got 2 shots today and the oral Rotovirus vaccine.  She was a trooper.  She only cried for a few seconds.

Dr. G said we can try oatmeal now instead of the rice cereal.  Maybe Emily will like that better.  We'll continue to try baby food as well.

Happy 6 Months!

First off, let me say. . .I can't believe my baby is already 6 months old!!!  The time has just flown by!

Here's what's happening with Emily at 6 months:

 - She's wearing 3-6 month clothes.

 - We've made some progress on the naps.  She still doesn't  have a schedule, but we have gotten her to take a nap in her crib every so often.

 - She still drinks 6 oz. every 3 hours.  As for solids. . .it continues to be a work in progress.  We give her rice cereal and 1/2 jar of stage 1 foods each night.  She usually will take about 5 or 6 bites before she's done.  As of now, she's tried pears and sweet potatoes.  I think she likes sweet potatoes better.  And is still not a fan of the rice cereal at all.

 - She loves to stick out her tongue.

 - She's switched from being a side sleeper to a tummy sleeper.  This made me a nervous wreck at first, but she seems to move less during the night when she's on her tummy, so I don't get so nervous about this now.  I love how she sticks her little booty in the air when she sleeps on her tummy.

 - She can sit up on her own for a few seconds.

 - She's not mobile just yet, but she's still trying very hard to pull her knees up under her.  And she gets extremely frustrated very easily.

 - She loves playing with her feet and she's been trying very hard to get them in her mouth.

 - She can fit her entire fist in her mouth (how many people can say that).

 - She's so aware of what's around her.  If it's in her reach, she wants to grab it.

 - She loves to play in her excersaucer.

 - She is overall a really happy baby.  She gets so excited whenever Shawn or I walk into the room.

 - She's still a big fan of the pacifier.  She seems to "talk" less now, but I think that's because she has a pacifier in her mouth much more often.

 - So far, this is by far my favorite age!  She's still little enough to want to cuddle with me, but is aware enough to want to play too.

Happy 1/2 Birthday Emily!  We love you and can't wait to see what the next 6 months bring!!!

Weekend Wrap-up

We've had a busy, but fun weekend!  Saturday we headed to Arlington to attend a birthday party for one of Shawn's friend's kids.  It's so fun getting together with his friends as we all have babies now.  I'm looking forward to watching all the kids grow up and play together.  After the party, we went over to Shawn's Granny's house to let Emily nap and then headed out to a quick dinner.  This was the first time in several months that we have attempted to take Emily out to a restaurant and she did pretty well.  Of course, we were in and out within an hour and Shawn and I took turns holding her on our laps, but we've definitely come a long way!  We enjoyed seeing Granny and her and Emily were able to do lots of catching up.
His Granny cracks me up.  She was telling Emily all about how she needs to watch out for boys and then goes on to tell her that she needs stay away from beer.  Here she is using visuals to get her point across to Emily.
And even though Emily tried pears out earlier this week and wasn't too fond of them, she thought she would try the one sitting on Granny's counter.
Overall, we had a nice time hanging out with Shawn's Granny.  And Emily also enjoyed hanging out with her dog, Cricket.
We've had a busy Sunday as well.  This morning we just hung around the house and Emily showed Shawn and I what she's been practing at school - sitting up.  She can sit up by herself for a good 10-15 seconds.  But as soon as she reaches for something she loses her balance and topples over.
Although we've been blaming teething on the cause of her fussiness for several weeks now, this photo is evidence that she indeed still has no teeth.  I'm sure we will continue to use teething as her excuse, so hopefully some will pop up soon.
Tonight we invited Shawn's dad over for dinner. Shawn grilled out some hamburgers and we all sat outside enjoying the nice weather.  And yes,  Emily was on her second outfit of the day at this point.
And last, but not least we tried attempted a new food tonight. . .sweet potatoes!  At first bite, Emily thought she might in fact like these. . .but a couple of bites later and. . .nope, not a big fan of the sweet potatoes.  Oh well, we'll continue to give it 2 or 3 more tries before moving on.  Surely, we'll eventually find something that she likes, right??

First Attempt at Baby Food

So we've had a bit of a fussy girl on our hands the last couple of weeks.  She was sent home from daycare with a fever last Friday, so I took her to see the Dr. and they couldn't find anything wrong with her.  We thought maybe she was teething, but 2 weeks later and still no teeth.  Over the last couple of weeks, she had pretty much lost all of her appetite.  I was struggling to get her to eat even 2 oz. of formula every 3 hours.  So as an attempt to get her to eat something, I decided to introduce some baby food (since she has no interest in the rice cereal still).  I know they say to give vegetables first, but I was desperate to get something in her stomach so I decided to try pears first.  I mean who doesn't like pears.  Well, that would be my daughter.  We've tried pears for the last 3 nights and still no interest.  She just spits everything you put in her mouth, right back out again.  I'm determined to keep at it and make the attempt every night whether she eats or not.  I'm going to try one more night of pears, then we're going to move on.  I'm thinking sweet potatoes next.  We'll see how it goes.

On a side note, today was the first day that her appetite returned.  She chugged all 6 oz of her bottle.  They even said she was good at school today.  All we've heard over the last 2 weeks, is how fussy she is during the day.  I'm so glad our happy girl is back.  Now if only, she would eat some solid food!

Almost Wordless Wednesday

Our first attempt at hairbows!!

Chore Time

As I've mentioned in prior posts, the baby bjorn has now become Emily's favorite mode of transportation!  She loves it!  Shawn got it out one night so Emily could help him water the trees we just planted in the backyard.

Happy Easter

Emily was so excited to find out what the Easter Bunny brought her, that she woke up at 5:00 am this morning.  But luckily, after a quick bottle, she went right back to sleep and slept until 9:00.  As soon as she had another bottle, we showed her what the Easter Bunny left for her in her basket.  She got a bunny hooded towel and washcloth, a book, and a couple of dresses.

Look, I can fit in my basket!
This afternoon we headed over to my Aunt Ann's house for Easter brunch.  Emily got a big basket that the Easter Bunny left at Mimi and Papa's house.  She also got several other goodies from Nana, Aunt Ann, and the Pickoski's.  She must have been a very good girl for the Easter Bunny to have brought her so many nice things.  She didn't get to partake in the Easter egg hunting, but I know next year she will be right out there with all of her cousins.

Easter in Burleson

We headed down to Burleson to celebrate Easter with Shawn's family this afternoon.  We had a great time.  The weather was perfect, so we got to enjoy lots of time outside.  Emily was such a good girl, despite not taking any naps all day!  She never wants to miss a minute of a party.  Shawn's mom's house has several big trees in the backyard, so we thought it would be fun to buy Emily a swing.  I think she really liked it and her cousins had lots of fun pushing her in it.
