A Glimpse Into Our Night

I've been told that I've been slacking on my blog lately (it's due to lack of sleep, thanks to Evan being sick), so I started out taking just a few pics when I got home tonight and it turned into me taking a lot by the time the night was over.  Sometimes it's nice to be able to look back and see what a typical night was like for us.

I came home to Evan playing his piano.  Evan seems to be trying to pull himself up and this was the toy that allowed Emily to eventually pull up on.  It's the perfect height.  Also, note that these were Evan's spare clothes at school.  Apparently he had a rough day and went through 2 other outfits at school today.

Emily is all about doing things herself now.  She moves her chairs all over the kitchen to do things on her own.  Here she is getting her own water.

Evan was starting to get fussy, so I put him in his swing to take a catnap.  He was having none of that.  He never wants to miss out on anything.  I started taking a couple of pictures of him.  I wasn't doing anything in front of him to get these expressions.  Sooo glad my happy boy has returned after being sick!

Since he wouldn't nap, he sat with us during dinner.  He started getting fussy again so we whipped out the mesh feeders.  Emily never liked these, but they seem to have completely different eating preferences so we tried.  We put a banana in it and he went to town!  I see us using these a lot with him.

While I was doing dishes, Shawn, Evan and Em were playing.  Evan was trying so hard to pull up.   Oh and due to the amount of bananas on his clothes, we stripped him down to his diaper until it was time for a bath.

And look. . .he did it!!  Just kidding.  Shawn stood him up.  Haha.  But he's getting close!

Oh and let's not forget about Em now.  Since Evan was showing us his tricks, she had to show us hers too.  She was showing us the splits that she does in gymnastics.

But then her tummy started hurting and she decided she needed to lay down in the guest room.

Don't worry, her tummy didn't hurt too long and she was back to playing with her brother and cheering him on.

After a bit more playing (and doing dishes), it was time for the bedtime routine to start.  We all go upstairs together.  Shawn bathes Evan while I enertain Em and then when he's done, I take him to put him to bed.  While I'm putting him to bed, Shawn gives Em a tub and then I put her to bed. Evan just started taking a bath without his baby tub.  Once he gets a little more sturdy in the tub, I'm hoping to move them to our bathtub and they can take 1 together.

Our nights are nonstop from the time we get home until we put the kids to bed around 8:00 - 8:30.  While it's sometimes crazy in our house at night, it's always fun.

Conversations With Emily

Shawn and Em were making breakfast last weekend and this was their conversation:

Shawn: "Where do eggs come from?"
Em: "The fridge"

Shawn: "Who makes eggs?"
Em: "Daddy"

............................................................................................................................

Shawn: "I love you pumpkin."
Em: "I'm not a pumpkin, I'm Emily."  "Why is Mom laughing?"
Shawn: "Because you're funny."
Em: "I'm not funny, except when I make funny faces - like this (as she shows us a funny face). ."

.............................................................................................................................

Shawn was getting ready to go grocery shopping and was asking me if I needed anything:

Shawn: "Do you need anything at the store?"
Em: "Um, I think I need cookies."  :)

Conversations With Emily

Shawn's saving this one to share in Em's wedding day toast.  :)

Let me just preface by saying 3year olds don't get embarassed when they toot.  But she does know to say excuse me afterwards.

A few nights ago, me and Em were in the bathroom brushing her teeth before bed and Emily tooted. . .

Em: "Mommy, say excuse me."
Me: "That wasn't me."
Em: laughing says "oh, that was me!"  :)

Our Poor Little Guy. .

. . is sick yet again.  :(  He's been fighting some kind of virus since last week and it got even worse yesterday.  I took him to see the after hours pediatric dr. last night and in addition to a cold virus, he also has a fever, eye infection and ear infection.  I might mention this is his 3rd ear infection in 9 weeks (all in the same ear).  Shawn even took him to our dr's office last Saturday thinking he might have an ear infection, but it was all clear.  It's crazy how quickly they can come on.  So once again our little guy is on antibiotics and drops (only this time for his eye).  We're really hoping he recovers soon and is back to his happy self.  I know we all need some much needed sleep around here!  Oh and we're hoping to make an appointment with his dr. soon to discuss the possibility of tubes.  These ear infections are starting to get out of hand!

Seven Months

Evan (my little man),

How is it that you are now more than half way to turning 1?!  I can't believe my little man is getting to be so big!  You've had an exciting month with lots of firsts!

We celebrated your first Christmas this month and along with it, came your first snowfall.  We were on the go much of Christmas day, but you were such a trooper!

This month you moved up to the older side of the infant room at school.  I think you love having more room to play, so much so that you aren't napping quite as well at school and are coming home a sleepy boy!

Starting this month, you are now eating 3 meals a day.  You have oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, 1 jar (stage 1) of veggies for lunch and 1 jar of veggies for dinner.  So far you have tried pears, bananas, apples, squash, sweet potatoes, peas and carrots.  The carrots and sweet potatoes are your favorites.  You don't like your baby food cold though.  So if it's an open jar that's been in the fridge, we have to heat it up to get you to eat it.  You love watching us eat our food, so I know once we start you on table food, you won't be touching the baby food.  Now that you are eating, you seem to finally be putting on some weight!  I hope it stays.  You've started learning how to use a sippy cup this month.  You usually bend your whole head back in order to get the water out.  You haven't quite figured out that you only need to tip the cup.   But you'll get it soon!  You still don't have any teeth.

Unfortunately you ended up with your second ear infection this month.  It was so bad that your ear drum ruptured.  :(  I hate seeing you sick, but you just finished up the antibiotics and are back to your happy self.  We're hoping you stay well for a while now!

You reached a big milestone this month, you are now sitting up completely stable!  We can put you down on the floor and you will play with your toys for quite a while!  This month you have also learned how to clap your hands.  :)

You are still a very inconsistent sleeper.  There are nights where you have slept straight through from 7:45 - 6:45 and nights where you wake up 3-4 times and then wake up for good at 5:30.  I'd say you sleep through the night about 50% of the time.  I'm hoping that percentage keeps getting higher!  You still love sleeping on your stomach at night and just this month I have started letting you sleep with your lovey.  You seem to do better when you have something to snuggle with.  We've made some strides on the naps at home.  I'd say you nap in your crib a quarter of the time, but the majority is still in your swing.  You're still not really on any kind of nap schedule though.  You just take several naps during the day.  We've noticed you talk a lot when you are really tired and as Shawn calls it, you do a death roll when we try to hold you and you are tired.

You continue to be quite the talker.  You love to babble.  You now say lalalala, mamama, babababa, and dadadada.  You haven't shortened them to say mama or dada yet, but I think you are starting to figure out which one to yell depending on who is in the room.  I usually hear you say mamamamama when I'm in the room and it's dadadada when Daddy is in the room.  Along with all your babbling, you also still grunt to let us know you aren't happy.  And we've noticed you started babbling more when you are sleepy.  You've also learned how to make a clicking noise with your tongue.

We got the jumper out for you this month and it's quickly become a favorite.  We moved it downstairs and put the excersaucer upstairs as you seem to like the jumper more.  You've also started reaching up for us whenever you want us to pick you up.

Your sister is still your favorite person.  You LOVE it when she plays with you and she always gets the biggest laughs out of you.  You are also very aware of Lily now.  You love to watch her and get very excited it she actually gets close enough to let you pet her.

Starting this month, you are doing sooo much better in the car.  You can still get fussy, but nothing like it used to be.  No more screaming the whole car ride.  Thank goodness!

You are still a fan of your paci.  In fact, it seems like you start liking it more and more each month.  You now love to take it in and out of your mouth to play with it.

Trying to change your diaper is starting to become extremely difficult.  You try to roll over and you want to grab anything and everything you can, whether it's the watch on my wrist or the lotion I'm trying to put on you.  I usually have to make sure I have something for you to play with the entire time I'm trying to change you.

7 Month Stats
Weight: no dr. appt this month
Length: no dr appt this month
Eating: 6 oz of Nutramigen every 3 hours during the day (usually comes out to 5-6 bottles each day).  No more night time bottles.  Having 3 meals a day consisting of oatmeal and baby food.  Also drinking some water out of a sippy cup.
Bedtime: Around 7:45 pm
Awake: 5:30-6:30 am
Naps: no consistent schedule. We've been working some on getting you to nap in your crib during the weekends.
Diapers: Size 3 Pampers. We moved you up when we ran out of size 2's, but you could have stayed in them longer.
Clothes: Mainly size 6-12 months, but you still fit into several 3-6 months
Favorites: playing with your sister, playing in your jumper, watching Lily, chewing on your Sophie giraffe, snuggling with your lovey
Development: can now sit up stable, repeating lots of syllables (mamama, dadada, bababa, lalalala), rolls to get around, reaches out for us to pick him up, claps his hands.

Random Ramblings

Sorry, for my lack of posting.  Blogger seems to be having issues and I'm having a hard time uploading pictures.  :(
  • Shawn got me big canvas prints of the kids newborn pics for Christmas.  I love them and can't wait to hang them going up our staircase.
  •  Last weekend we took the kids to the Children's Aquarium in Dallas.  Emily loved it.  We went early on Sunday morning and for a while had the place to ourselves.

  • Shawn took the kids outside to play last weekend and I just had to take some pics of Evan.  He looked like such a little boy in his orange and camo.  :)

  • Emily started in gymnastics this week.  Shawn took her for a trial class and she LOVED it.  She said her favorite part was jumping on the trampoline.  Since she liked it so much, we signed her up for a weekly class.  Doesn't she look so cute in her little leotard?
  • I'm starting to worry that Evan will grow out of the swing soon.  He takes the best naps in this!

Sleepy Boy

Daycare sent me some pictures they took of Evan on Thursday.  This was his first week on the older side of the infant room.  They must play harder on that side because somebody was so tired that he fell sleep playing in the excersaucer.  Love my sweet boy!

Notice that he's got his arm through the toy.  :)

In other news, Evan is now sitting up completely stable!  He's been doing well sitting up for a while now, but only this week have I felt comfortable enough to sit him down on the floor without the boppy pillow around him.   It's perfect timing too as we have family pictures scheduled for next weekend.

Conversations With Emily

This afternoon, I was playing upstairs with Emily and Evan. . .

Emily - "Mommy, my tummy hurts.  I need a different snack."
Me -  "Haha, nice try, but if your tummy hurts you don't need anymore snacks."

.........................................................................................................................................................

We were in the car driving back from the store. . .

Emily - "Dad, will you pack my swimsuit and sunscreen to go swimming?"
Shawn - "It's too cold to go swimming."
Emily - "Oh, I mean for next summer."
Shawn - "Oh ok, should I pack your sunglasses too?"

 A few hours later. . .
Emily - "Is is next summer?"

Happy 2013

I still can't believe a new year is upon us already!  I feel like each year flies by quicker and quicker.  I can't wait to see what this year holds for our family!

We celebrated New Years Eve with our friends Courtney, Grant and their baby, Grace.  Evan and Grace were asleep around 7:45.  The rest of us ate dinner and just sat around chatting until we left their house around 10:00.  Emily was a trooper and made it late!  Unfortunately, we didn't see midnight this year.  I wasn't too disappointed.  With 2 kids, I was just as happy getting more sleep!

My new year's resolution last year was to organize.  I feel like I did accomplish that - even if it took me until the last week of December to do it.  :)  Shawn and I were off the week between Christmas and New Years and we got a ton of stuff cleaned out.

Goals for 2013 -

 1. Continue to organize the house
 2. Re-do the kids bathroom
 3. Lose the rest of this baby weight and keep it off!
 4. Find time to start reading again
 5. Continue to blog as much as I can
 6. Print out all our 2012 pictures and put them in photo albums

We'll see how well I do by the end of the year.
