Emily Turns 8!

Emily's birthday fell on a Saturday this year.  Unfortunately, it was a jam packed Saturday with 2 soccer games, an end of season soccer party, a t-ball game and Granny's 90th birthday party, but of course we squeezed in time to celebrate our girl!

We surprised Emily with her favorite breakfast - donuts.  But we made them even more special by ordering birthday donuts and singing happy birthday to her during breakfast.

This year for her birthday she asked to redo her bedroom.  So instead of a large party, we upped her present budget and redid her room.  Shawn stayed home the day before her birthday and got most of it done. We're still working on a few finishing touches, but once it's done I'll post pics!  And don't worry, she's still getting a small party with a few friends in just a couple weeks.  More on that later.

To Emily On Your 8th Birthday

Dear Emily,

AH! How are you eight already??  Only 2 more years before you hit double digits.  Time just needs to slow down a bit.  This has been another great year for you, but I can't wait to see what turning 8 will bring.

You are the sweetest little girl and you sure make me and your Daddy super proud.  For the most part, you are a go with the flow type of girl.  You're such a sweet and loyal friend.  You still have a big personality and are super outgoing. You have a ton of friends, but this year you've made your first best friend.

You have started second grade and while it's definitely a bit more challenging than first grade, you are already doing great having earned all A's on your very first graded report card.  You love your teacher this year, so I know it will be a great school year.  With Evan starting Kindergarten, you've been such a great big sister to him and always help him out at school when he needs it.

This year you have really found your love of tumbling. You still take gymnastics and play soccer too, but tumbling is your favorite.  You love to flip upside down.

You are still my sweets girl who dislikes pretty much every kind of fruit and veggie there is.  Italian food and dessert are the way to your heart.  You still love to draw and are super creative, so it's no surprise that art class is your favorite specials class at school.

Happiest of birthdays to my sweet pea.  Eight is sure going to be great!  I just know it.  I hope you have the best day ever and know just how much you mean to all of us.  I love you!

Love,
Mommy

Conversations with Evan

Emily, Evan and I were on our way to take Emily to gymnastics and we were talking about their school day.  Evan often talks about a girl named Landry in his class:

Emily: Is Landry your girlfriend?
Evan: "NO! . . . Olivia is my girlfriend.  She says she wants to marry me.  But I don't know if I want her at my wedding!"

Fun Run

The kids participated in their schools annual Fun Run this morning.  Both had a blast.  This year they had a special surprise at the end of the run. . .a blow up obstacle course.

It  was too bright for Em to open her eyes.

Texas State Fair

The kids have been asking for several weeks now if we could go to go to the fair this year.  Both kids got free tickets through school, so we figured we might as well try it out.   This was their first time to go. We thought it might be more fun to take the Dart train down there, so we drove to the Carrollton station and hopped on.  The kids both enjoyed it. . . until there was an accident involving a train and a car farther up the track and we were forced to get off at an earlier stop. Instead of waiting with the mobs of other people for a Dart bus, we just ubered the rest of the way to the fair.

It was super hot and crowded, but we made the most of our trip.  Kevin, Julie and the girls met us there and we rode lots of rides, played games, ate corny dogs, saw Big Tex and walked through the car show.  We were all wiped at the end of the day!  Luckily, the train was back up and running when we left.  Both kids fell asleep on the ride back.
