Conversations With Evan

Shawn went in to say good night to Evan the other night and this is what Evan said to him:

"I wish I could just tie a string around you and pull you around."

Shawn and I were talking on the couch one night and Evan was downstairs with us:

Shawn: "I was sweating my tail off when I was cooking over the grill today."
Evan: "Daddy, you don't have a tail.  Only animals have tails."

Labor Day Weekend

Each year, Shawn goes dove hunting with his Dad, brother, sister and nephews over Labor Day weekend.  This year, he decided to take Emily with him.  She was so excited and they talked about it for weeks leading up to it.  I was pretty hesitant about the whole thing and was worried she would be bored out of her mind.  There were no plans for her to shoot anything, but instead just tag along and see what they did.  She totally proved me wrong.  She had the best time!  In fact, Shawn actually tried to convince her to come home on Saturday afternoon because there were hardly any birds flying, but she really wanted to stay, so they did.  I asked Em if she wants to go every year and she told me only until Evan starts going and then she wants to stay home.  Ha.  I think it ended up being some great Daddy/daughter time!

Driving out to the field.

And Scott got his truck stuck.

Myles (8), Emily (6), Mason (11)

Still stuck!  Shawn thought this might take a turn for the worst with Em, but luckily once his Dad got there, they were able to get all setup in the field and cook dinner.  They found some people later that helped get his truck out of the mud.

I still can't believe Shawn got her in camo.  It was quite an ordeal to find camo that she approved of.  I'm guessing though once she saw everyone else in it, she figured it wasn't so bad.  She did still insist on wearing her skinny jeans.  :)

Uncle Scott taught her how to shoot a BB gun.  I guess she hit a can on her first try.

She sure is the cutest little hunter.

Papa Mike bought her a pink camo shirt, but surprisingly she didn't want to wear it.

Shawn said this was them pulling out of the hotel to go to the fields.

And this was just minutes later.  Ha.

Shawn was the lone guy to get any dove.  I guess they just weren't flying.  And yes, that's my daughter holding a dead bird.  Umm gross!

Back at the hotel, some guy showed Em a rattlesnake he had killed.

Luckily she didn't want to touch that!

While Shawn and Em were gone, Evan and I had some fun of our own.  We went out to dinner when I picked him up from school on Friday and then headed home.  He requested a bubble bath and sleepover in Mommy's bed, so that's just what we did.

After getting kicked all night, I made him sleep in his own bed the next night.  :)

Saturday he had swim lessons, which we followed up with a lunch date.  Then after a quick afternoon nap, we headed over to Mimi and Papa's house to swim and have dinner.  He had a blast with his cousins!

He loved firehouse subs!  He just wished there was a real firetruck inside too.

I'd say it was a pretty good Labor Day weekend.  Now with activities and school starting up, things are about to get hectic for us, so it was good to have one final weekend to enjoy the last days of summer.

Conversations With Evan

For the past couple of months, Evan has requested we leave his lamp on after we put him to bed and read him a story.  Once we leave his room, he is usually up playing in his room for 30-45 minutes.  The other night before we read a story, he was playing with something on his workbench. He is usually building or creating something with the things he finds in his room.  This was our conversation:

Me: "So is this what you do after we put you to bed, but you don't go to bed?"
Evan: "Yes, I do all the things I need to get done in my room and then I go to bed.  I organize my books. . ."

I just had to laugh because each night before I go to bed I go and turn his lamp off and the things I find in his room are so funny.  He's usually either built a fort or some kind of contraption that I'm having to maneuver around.  Both my kids like the Tinkerbell movies and I joke with Evan all the time that he would definitely be a tinker fairy.

August Little Things

We had a busy August as the summer ended and school started back up.

Our veggie garden has been in full swing.  The kids have loved watching the veggies grow and eating them.

Home made pickles

Summer camp ended at Primrose, but not before the kids got to do some fun activities.

Evan has started this new thing where he wants us to leave his lamp on when he goes to bed and then we turn it off when we go to bed.  I caught him one night with all his pillows under him.

I helped throw Shawn's cousin's wife a baby shower.  Can't wait for a new baby to join the family next month.

We enjoyed the nice weather and played outside a lot.

We did some baking.

The kids started back at school.  After their first day we celebrated with some snow cones!

Evan has been loving his new Pre-K class!

Evan is playing soccer this year (along with Em) and he had his very first practice this month.  He was interested in participating for about 15 of the 45 minute practice. HA

One Saturday morning, we let Evan go downstairs when he woke up.  The next thing we know, Emily is up in our room to tell us Evan cut his hair.  He told us he wanted to look silly.

Shawn took the kids out to breakfast one morning and they came across some hot air balloons.
