June Little Things

It's been a crazy, busy month for us!  The kids finished up school.  Evan finished up baseball.  We celebrated Evan's birthday and we went on vacation.  Most of those events got their own post, so this one shouldn't be too long.  Here are all the little things we've been up to this month.

Evan had his last baseball practice of the season and the coaches celebrated by bringing ice cream for the kids.

While Emily and I went to my nieces dance recital, the boys headed over to Scott's house to swim.  Shawn sent me this picture showing Evan passed out 5 minutes from Scott's house.

Emily has been practicing twice a week with an Academy soccer team.  We're still waiting to hear if she has made the team or not.  It started raining during one practice so they went to the car to try and wait it out.

Evan has taken over one of our upstairs hall closets.  I think he's put almost all of his possessions in it.  I'm afraid he might just be a hoarder.

Over Father's day weekend, we went to Courtney and Grant's house to swim and then the next day went out to brunch with them.

2018 Baxter Summer Vacation - Galveston, TX

We just got back from a summer road trip.  We started out on Friday morning driving down to spend the night with Shawn's cousin, William, in Houston.

Saturday morning we packed up we all headed to Galveston.  We couldn't get into the house we rented until 4:00, so we checked out the area down by the sea wall and had some lunch.

Around 3:30 we started the drive to the house.  It took about 20-30 minutes to get to the house from the main area of Galveston.  I'll be honest, I was a bit disappointed in the house, mainly because we have stayed in some amazing rentals before.  I just thought it could use a few repairs and cleaning.  I think the pics on VRBO must have been taken right when it was all freshly painted and decorated.  But with all that said, the location was great and the layout of the house was perfect for us.  We also got access to a community pool and lazy river which was really nice.  Here are the pics from VRBO.  I didn't take any myself.

The kids were so excited to check out the beach, so we headed down right after we unpacked.  Now I've always heard Galveston doesn't have the nicest beaches, but I didn't think it was so bad.  The beach by our house was raked every night so there was no seaweed at all.  The sand is definitely not what we're used to, as it is very packed down, but that wasn't bad because it helped not get sand all over everything.  The water is what bummed me out the most.  It was just so muddy.  I just prefer the clear ocean water.  Now that didn't stop Evan one bit from swimming.  That kid loved the ocean and swam as much as he could.  Even Em ventured in by the last day.

Sunday we started the day off by heading to the beach.  The kids swam while the adults watched.  :)  After lunch we ended up going to the lazy river before heading back and ordering some pizza.

Monday morning the boys got up early and headed back into Galveston to go fishing.  It was a slow fishing day, but Shawn caught a shark and William caught 1 really big fish.  Us girls stayed back with the kids.  We headed to the beach in the morning, but saw several jellyfish so decided swimming in the water wasn't the best idea.  Luckily by lunch time most of the jellyfish were gone, so they could swim.  We also spent some more time at the lazy river before coming back and cooking up all the fish for dinner.

We packed up Tuesday morning and made one last pit stop for the kids to grab some souvenirs and have lunch before heading to Edna to stay with Shawn's aunt and uncle for the night.  His uncle has a ranch with horses and cows and the kids were so excited about seeing / riding them, but unfortunately it had rained so much in Edna lately, the mosquitoes were just ridiculous, so we opted to just stay inside.

We woke up early Wednesday morning and made the trek back home.  It was a fun trip, but I'm not sure I'll ever go back to Galveston.  I think it was a one and done kind of trip.  :)
