And I finally caught it on video.  :)

Emily Lately

Just a few random stories about Em lately.
  • Last week Em woke up in the middle of the night screaming.  She said she was having a nightmare.  When Shawn asked her what it was about he couldn't help but laugh.  So here's a little background.  . .each Friday parents can write a mail call for their kids.  It's just a little note to them that's read aloud during circle time.  Em loves getting mail call and I'm pretty sure we've only forgotten 1 time since it's started.  Well, her nightmare was that I had forgotten to write her a mail call on cookie Friday.  Oh to be young again and have these be my greatest worries in life!  :)  I do, however, love knowing that these are Em's greatest worries!  :)

  • Em loves to watch her tv shows and play games on the ipad.  We joke because it's pretty much become her ipad.  We usually have to fight her to use it.  Well somehow the ipad had gotten switched off Wifi and was on 3G instead.  Shawn got an email from AT&T showing that we only had 20% of our data plan left for a random phone number.  An hour later he got another email that said we were down to 10% of our data plan.  It took us only a few minutes to realize that Em was watching her shows on the ipad and it was completely draining our data plan minutes.  I never thought in a million years that I would have to worry about my 3 year old using up all of our minutes!  I was completely wrong!

  • In the mornings when we're getting ready to leave, I will often say to Evan "come on big boy."  I've never thought too much about it until Shawn mentioned to me that when him and Em are getting ready to go somewhere she will say to Shawn "come on big boy."

Memorial Weekend Recap

Saturday

We had a fun, busy Saturday.  Evan was very excited about the weekend and decided to wake up at 5:30!  Mommy wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as him, but watching my happy, sweet boy play made it a little easier on me.

Em had dance class as usual in the morning.  I took her and she was super excited because they got to try on their dance recital costumes and show us their dance again.  It just makes me so much more excited to see her in the recital in just a few weeks!

At the end of dance, Shawn and Evan met us to go to the Farmer's Market across the street.  We love walking around the farmer's market and seeing all the yummy stuff they have.  We ended up buying some breakfast pastries for Sunday morning.  Evan was doing so well at the Farmer's Market we decided to try our luck and go out for lunch at Blue Goose.  It was overcast outside and the perfect patio weather.  Evan (and Em) did amazing at lunch.

Please, no more pics.

After lunch we headed back home and all 4 of us took a much needed nap!  I for one was exhausted!  After naptime we loaded up and headed down to Arlington to visit his Granny.  We had plans to go out to dinner, but plans don't always work out the way you expect.  It had rained on us off and on the whole drive down, but by the time we got to his Granny's house it had completely stopped.  We had about 30-40 min. before our dinner reservations and it was sunny the whole time we were at her house.  Shawn and his Granny drove in 1 car and the kids and I followed (the downside of having 2 car seats is we can only fit 2 adults in the car).  As we were driving it started pouring.  We parked the cars and I waited with the kids in the car while Shawn walked in Granny in and then came to get us.  We both had an umbrella and 1 kid, but it was so windy the umbrella didn't help at all.  We walked into the restaurant and the 4 of us were drenched.  I'm talking completely soaked.  Em started shivering and I knew there was no way we could go sit in a nice air conditioned restaurant as wet as we were, so we turned right around and got back in the cars.  And guess what happened as soon as we started drving home. . the rained completely stopped.  :(  I just kept telling Em that it wasn't meant to be.  Instead Shawn just ran out and got some takeout while I changed the kids into the pj's I had brought for them.  Even though things didn't go as planned we still had a nice time visiting with his Granny.  And really the kids were just as happy eating Dickey's as they would have been eating at a nice restaurant.  Evan even showed off his new skills.  He's up to about 10 steps now on his own!

Sunday

We had a quiet morning on Sunday.  Em and Shawn went grocery shopping while I stayed home so Evan could nap.  After the kids afternoon nap we packed up and headed to Mimi and Papa's for dinner and swimming.  I was excited to see how the kids would do in the pool this year.  Luckily I was able to convince Em to wear her puddle jumper and she loved being able to swim around on her own.  I've been trying to get her to wear it for the last 2 summers and she's wanted nothing to do with it.  But now she loves the freedom it gives her.  She had a blast swimming with my nieces and I practically had to drag her out of the pool to eat dinner.  Evan also loved the pool.  He was perfectly content floating around the pool in the float.  He must have floated for at least an hour and then was happy swimming with Shawn for another hour.  He's definitely a water baby.  It didn't hurt either that my Dad had heated the pool and it felt like bath water. . haha.  Seeing the kids in the water made me even more excited about our upcoming trip in July.  We enjoyed eating dinner outside with my family before heading back home.

Poor guy had to swim in the ladybug float.  That's the downside of having 3 girl cousins.  Don't worry, we'll buy him a boy one to use on vacation.  :)

Trust me, she really is having a ton of fun despite the look on her face.

This was also a big trip for us because my parents decided to take Lily for me.  I'm so thankful that they have graciously offered to do this and I love that I will still be able to see her whenever I want.  We brought Lily over with us and I know she'll adjust very quickly since she's already familiar with their house.

Monday

After all the time we spent in the sun and pool on Sunday we were all tired.  Em slept til 6:30 (which is about average for her) and Evan slept in until 7:45!  We might just have to take him swimming every weekend!  We took a family trip to Market Street and then headed back home.  I put Evan down for a nap and 3.5 hours later he was still napping.  He really was worn out!  Me and Em ran out to order Evan's smash cake for his party coming up and then had some lunch at home before putting Em down for a nap.  Later in the evening Shawn's cousin, William, and his girlfriend, Jenny, came over for dinner.  Me and Em had to run out to swim lessons for an hour, but made it back just in time for dinner.  We had fun visiting, but were all ready for an early bedtime.  This was a tiring weekend!

You can't tell, but the kids are really fighting over the remote.

Em wasn't in the mood for pics, but I still took some.  :)

Is it just me or does he look so big in this pic?  I can almost picture him as a teenager mowing the lawn. . haha

Trouble

I swear trouble should be this boy's middle name.  These are a few pics of his latest trick.  In case you can't tell, it's him climbing out of the bathtub during bath time.  And yes, he can climb completely out!  I have a feeling we're in for quite the adventure with this one, but I know I'm going to love every minute of it.  :)  Have I mentioned how much I'm loving being a boy mom?

Scenes From Our Day

I know, I know.  I've been totally slacking on my picture taking lately.  I just haven't been in the blogging mood lately.  But I know one day I'll look back and regret slowing down on my blog, so I'm going to try and be better.  We'll see how that goes.  :)

Evan is our early bird and often wakes up before I'm finished getting ready for work.  Usually he's perfectly content hanging out in his swing and watching tv or napping.  Not this morning!  This is how I found him when I came downstairs.   Good thing he was strapped in.  I'm sad to say his time in the swing might just be coming to an end.  I've been lucky to have 2 babies that have just LOVED this swing!

Once he was happy and out of the swing he was all trouble!  This little chair is one of the chairs he pushes all around the floor.  He uses it as a walker to get around.  I heard him banging in the kitchen and this is what I found.  He loves going through the cabinets.

I told him "no" and so what did he do.  He closed the first set of cabinents and just moved on to the next set.  Apparently I need to be more clear. . haha

After school we went outside to play.  We had gotten their whale pool out this past weekend and it was still in the backyard.  Em wanted to play in the empty pool, so we put Evan in too.  Turned out to be a great playpen!

Em desperately wanted to take a pic with her brother.  He wasn't having it at all.  He just wanted to play.

I love that you can see Evan's top teeth coming in.  His are coming in the order as Em's did.  He looks just like Dracula.  :)

Someone loves holding these paintbrushes.

And someone was pouting because there were no paintbrushes for her.

It's a good thing she's still cute when she's pouty!

Love my little buddy, even when he's all sweaty and a mess.
Love my sweet girl!  She could spend all day outside if we'd let her!

My boy loves to swing!  He's just like his sister.

First Steps!

A couple of weeks ago Evan took his very first step, but tonight he took many steps!  Several times tonight he took 6-7 steps all on his own.  I forgot how special it is to see your baby take their first steps.  I love watching their unsteady little feet try to keep their balance and that huge grin on their face once they realized they did it all by themselves.   It's one of those moments that I don't ever want to forget.   Of course I don't have pictures, but I wanted to make sure I recorded this huge milestone.  My guess is we will have a walker by his birthday.

(Almost) Wordless Wednesday

All I wanted was a nice picture of the 2 of them.  These were my attempts.

Mother's Day

Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day this year.  I know I did!  We had a busy day, but it was lots of fun.

My Mother's Day started off during the week when both kids brought me home gifts they made at school.  I look forward to these gifts more than anything else.  I love seeing what they make and how proud they are for making it (well Em, anyways).  They both made some good ones this year!

This one was from Evan
This one is from Em.  The pot said "I love you because" and each flower had a reason.

This flower said because "you help me clean up."

This one said because "you give me hugs."
I told Shawn I didn't need any gifts for Mother's Day and really didn't want to do anything special either.  I was totally fine with just a normal Sunday hanging out with my family.  Of course he didn't listen.  Saturday him and Em went grocery shopping and when they walked in they had tulips and a huge balloon for me.  Em told me the balloon was for her and I and we had to share it.  I figured that was ok since she basically acts like a second mom to Evan.  :)

We had a wedding to go to on Saturday and I was so tired Sunday morning.  I was the last one to wake up.  Upon going downstairs, I saw a HUGE spread of food complete with stuff for bloody mary's and mimosa's.  It was enough to feed at least 15 people. I'm talking french toast, muffins, 3 quiches, 2 loaves of sausage bread and fruit salad.   I couldn't believe Shawn had made so much food.  I guess he thought I would be really hungry??  Either way I fully enjoyed it!  I was also surprised when I got a new raincoat from the kids.   It's something I've been wanting.

Oh and I'm totally joking about all that food being for me.  Although Shawn likes to tell me that he would have done all of this just for me, it was also to feed 15 members of his family.  Haha.  The wedding we went to on Saturday night was for his cousin.  Most of his family stayed in a hotel in McKinney overnight and so we had everyone stop by for brunch on their way out of town.  :)

After everyone left we took a family nap.  All 4 of us were exhausted.  I'm pretty sure I could have slept the rest of the day.  Unfortunately the kids didn't feel the same way.  Once we woke up and played for a bit, we were off to my brother's house for a quick visit and some takeout.  My day ended around 8:30.  I put Em to bed and I went straight to bed too.  I was soo tired after a really busy weekend!
