Snow Day

Just when I thought we might make it through this winter without any ice or snow, it came.  By Sunday night, school had already closed on Monday in anticipation of the ice that would be coming. The freezing rain started early Monday morning and left us iced in all day Monday.  By Monday night, school had already announced it would be closed on Tuesday as well.  So we all stayed home for a second day.  Thankfully, by Tuesday afternoon most it had melted away and we were able to get out and about some.  We were all back at school/work on Wednesday.  I was hoping that would be the end of it, but it wasn't.  They kept saying there was a chance of snow on Friday, but it wouldn't start until mid-morning.  Well, it definitely came and stayed around for a while.  I left work around 11:30 after hearing about the roads getting slick.  What normally takes me 30-40 minutes to get home, took me over an hour and a half to get home.  The roads were jam packed and everyone was going slow.  It was Shawn's birthday and he had already taken the day off and was driving home after meeting his Dad for lunch.  By the time we got home it was nap time at the kid's school, so we decided to leave them there until after nap time.  Shawn went and picked them up around 3 and brought them home so they could play in the snow.  They were so excited to check out the snow.  It was still snowing at this point and we had tons of freshly powdered snow to play in.  Too bad it was super dry snow, not good at all for building a snowman.  The kids still had a blast though.

I'm really hoping this is the end of the snow/ice for this winter.  I'm more than ready for some spring weather!

Looking back on my blog, I realized that it has snowed every winter since Emily has been born. That's a pretty crazy fact when you live in TX!

Daddy / Daughter Dance

This past weekend was the Frisco Daddy/Daughter dance.  This was Shawn and Em's 2nd year to attend.  Em had so much fun at the dance last year and couldn't wait to go again!  It's something she has been talking about for quite a while.  She loves getting all dressed up.  She went with her friends Aubrey and Bellsie and after the dance they all went out to dinner at Benihana's.

This is such a fun tradition, that I hope it's one Em and Shawn continue for a while or at least until she's not embarrassed to be seen with her Daddy. . haha.

They had snow princesses there for the girls to take pictures with.

Happy Valentine's Day

The kids kicked off their Valentine's Day celebration on Friday.  They wore their new outfits that Mimi and Papa had given them and they had their Valentine's Day parties at school.  Unfortunately, Shawn and I couldn't make their parties, but my friend Jenny did send me one picture of Emily.  :)  It sounds like they had a blast though and they couldn't wait to look at all their valentine's from their friends when we got home.

Valentine's to give out to their friends at school.

Em's class party  - with her friend Ruby.

You know I can't pass up coordinating holiday pj's!

We didn't have any big plans for V-day on Saturday.  We had a low key morning with the kids activities and then we had Shawn's cousin, William and his wife, over for dinner.  It was nice not having to deal with all the crowds at the restaurants.

Weekend Project

Last Sunday it was so pretty outside, that we knew we wanted to do something to take advantage of the nice weather.  Shawn had the idea to build a birdhouse with the kids.  Shawn obviously did most of the work, but the kids loved helping whenever they could.  I think it turned out great.  It's a perfect addition to the backyard.

Swim Lessons

Both kids started swim lessons at the end of  January.  We decided to stick with Emler again for Em and signed Evan up there too.  Em is in the super beginners class and is doing awesome.  She has been the only kid in her class so far and is getting private lessons.  I'm sure more kids will eventually join, but right now it's nice that she gets so much one on one time.  I can't believe how well she's doing.  I think she finally has the confidence she needs to know that she can swim.  No more puddle jumper for her this summer!

Evan is in the aquatots class.  Although he's only 2, they allowed me to put him in the 3 year old class that has no swim skills.  The 2 year old beginner classes all require a parent in the water and I really wasn't up for that.  :)  Shawn takes him Saturday mornings while I take Em to gymnastics.  The first class he was pretty shy.  He would warm up and want to swim and then another minute he would hang his head down and walk to Shawn and say he wanted Mommy.  I took him to his third class and he didn't whine form Mommy or Daddy at all.  He doesn't really like going underwater, but there were no tears, so I'd say that's a win!  His favorite part is going down the big yellow slide at the end of class.
