Emily Turns 7!

Emily's birthday was this past Friday.  Even though Emily's birthday fell on a school day, we still tried to make it really special for her. Shawn got up early and went and got her donuts for breakfast.

Then it was off to school.  We weren't able to make it there to eat lunch with her, but I did surprise her by picking her up from school about 2 hours early.  We had trick or treating at my office and so I decided to pick her up a little early.  She was so excited especially because it was right when Math was starting and that is her least favorite subject.  She loved trick or treating at my office!

When we were done trick or treating, she had requested we go out to dinner at Babe's so they could sing to her.  So that's exactly what we did.I think she was a little embarrassed about the singing, but she stood there like a champ.  :)  Papa Mike even came with us too.

After dinner we headed home to have cake and let her open her presents.  We couldn't do it in the morning because Evan and Shawn leave before she wakes up.  Evan got her a barbie and a movie.  Shawn and I got her a cooking class at Central Market that she'll get to go to with Shawn in a couple weeks.  I know she will love it!  It was a great day celebrating Emmy!

Emily's 7th Birthday Party At WOGA

This past Sunday Emily had her birthday party at WOGA with all her friends.  After having to cancel her party last year, she was soo excited for this one.  The girls (and Evan) got to run free in the gym and they all had a blast.  She had a great turnout and had so much fun celebrating with all of her friends.  She's definitely a well loved little girl!

Party favors were jump ropes, hair bands and flipz pretzels

To Emily On Your 7th Birthday

Dear Emily,

Happy 7th Birthday, my sweet girl!  You keep inching too close to double digits!  So much has changed in just the last year.  This time last year you were just starting Kindergarten and now a year later you are rocking 1st grade.  You seemed to grow up tremendously this last year.

You are such a giving and thoughtful little girl.  You are constantly making crafts for your friends or drawing them pictures or even giving them some of your money so they can buy a pencil or eraser at school.  You are just as thoughtful when it comes to your brother as well.  You usually jump at the chance to help him with something, at least most of the time.  :)

You are still my friendly, bubbly girl with a big personality!  I love walking around your school with you.  You seem to know everyone at school and will say always say hi, even if you don't know their name. You started the year in a class with just a couple friends from last year, but you are so outgoing that it takes no time for you to make new friends.

You continue to be a busy bee!  You decided to stick with soccer this year and not go back to dance.  I love watching you play soccer, but this season has definitely been a tougher one than last year.  Your team had to jump up an age group and you have a couple new girls on the team too and as a result your team hasn't come away with many wins.  You still love playing though and it's been so much fun watching you and your teammates try so hard each week.

You have also continued to take gymnastics and you started taking a tumbling class this summer as well.  You've done so well in both classes that you have been promoted in both gymnastics and tumbling to the intermediate class.  You are always doing handstands around the house and are so excited to work on your back handsprings.   I can't wait to watch you excel in the intermediate classes.  You're also doing girl scouts again this year.  Can't wait until cookie season comes around again!

Drawing has quickly become one of your favorite activities.  You are such a good artist and I love seeing what you are going to draw next.  You have even passed on your love of drawing to your brother.

You are still a sweets girl and chocolate or dessert is the way to your heart!  You love wearing ponytails and insist upon wearing one almost every day. These days you prefer to wear skinny jeans or shorts over dresses.  You still love playing with Barbies.  You have decided that you are way too old for Disney Jr. and now prefer all the big kid shows on the regular Disney channel.

I love you so much sweet girl!  I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for you!

Love,
Mommy

Conversations With Evan

At my parents house last weekend, we were talking about when the kids golden birthdays would be.  You know, it's when you turn the age of the day you were born.  So for Em it would be when she turns 28 because she was born on the 28th and Evan will be when he turns 12 since he was born on the 12th.

Evan: "I know what a golden birthday is.  It's when all the decorations are gold."

All Emily Wants For Christmas Is Her 2 Front Teeth . . .

After being loose for weeks, Emily finally lost one of her front teeth last Wednesday.  The other one was literally hanging there and I for sure thought it would come out Thursday.  Well, it was still there when she got home from school on Thursday.  We tried and tried to get her to let us pull it out both Friday and Saturday, but she was too scared it would hurt.  So she lived with a snaggle tooth for a few days.  Finally on Sunday night it started bleeding.  Shawn convinced her to let him wiggle it and a few seconds later he had pulled it out.  Love her toothless smile!

Conversations With Evan

I just picked Evan up from school and we were driving home when we had this conversation:

Evan: "I wish we lived in Florida."
Me: "Wouldn't you miss your friends and family?"
Evan: "Nope, I could just go to the beach."
Me: "Well, you'd still have to go to school even in we lived in Florida."
Evan: "Nope, in Florida I wouldn't have to go to school.  I could just play on the beach all day."

Conversations With Emily

Emily was getting ready for school one morning when we had this conversation:

Em: "Can you whistle."
Me: "Yep" and demonstrated
Em: "That's pretty good for a beginner."

September Little Things

Fall is always a crazy, busy time of the year for us and this year is no exception.  Here's what we've been up to this month:

Evan has continued to love his new class at school.  I enjoy getting pictures of him during his day.  They celebrated Grandparent's day at school this month and Mimi went up and read a book to his class.  He loved having her there!

I love this picture!

He loves show and tell day!
We spent a ton of time at the soccer fields this month!  With both kids playing this year, we've got 2 practices and 2 games each week.

We went over for dinner at Kevin and Julie's one Saturday night.  It ended up also being our last swim of the year.  The kids of course loved having some cousin time.

Shawn went to the Cowboys/Giants game one Sunday.  This has become an annual tradition with my family.  They make it a whole day thing. . .tailgate and then the game.  This year's game fell on 9/11.

Me and the kids entertained ourselves while Shawn was at the game.  We did try to watch some of the game at least.

Waiting in the drive through at Whataburger.  Em was not impressed with the line.

They were going to turn this box into a car, but instead just ended up painting it.

When we're not at soccer on the weekends, we're at swim.  Evan is taking swim lessons on Saturday mornings.

Shawn went to San Antonio for work one week and he got to visit the Alamo and the riverwalk.  As a souvenir, he brought back coon skin hats for each of the kids.  They loved them.  Evan even took it to show and tell at school one day.

And even though we were constantly on the go this month, we did still manage to find a few moments to have some relaxation time on the couch.
