6 Year Anniversary

Yesterday Shawn and I celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary.  It's hard to believe it's been 6 years.  It's even more crazy that we've actually been together for 8.5 years!  In some ways it feels like longer and others it feels shorter.  I'm loving the place we're at in our lives right now and I don't think I would want to change a thing.

Shawn and I are taking a trip next month to celebrate our anniversary, so we didn't have any big plans today.  But thought I would still take a trip down memory lane and post some pics of us over the years.

Emily - Swim Lessons 2014

Em started swim lessons a few weeks ago.  She's taking them with her friend Aubrey at Emler again this year.  She's in the Advanced Beginner class this time.  The first week you could definitely tell it had been a while since she's been in the pool, as she was a bit rusty, but I think she made a lot of progress by the second and third week.  In this class they start working on different strokes and being able to swim farther.  I got her some goggles to wear and they seem to really be helping her keep her head under longer.  Now she just needs to learn how to hold her breath longer.  I can't wait to see how much she progresses this year.

Twenty One Months

Dear Evan,

Another month has already come and gone!  Not sure how it came so quickly, but it did.

This was your last month of classes at My Gym.  We decided to cancel them as it was getting harder and harder to get there on Sunday mornings.  It will be nice to have 1 weekend morning free again.  But don't worry, we signed you up for a new activity starting in April - swim lessons!

This month you made the transition from the young toddler class at school to the early preschool 1 class.  You seem to have adjusted well and you are doing great at drinking out of a regular cup.  Your naps seem to be back on schedule now with you sleeping for 2 hours.

Your vocabulary continues to amaze me each month!  You continue to add more and more phrases. . ."more oranges/bananas/etc." "hold mommy", "up mommy", "no emmy", "two loveys", "mickey mouse", "big bite," "big boy," "more hot dog dance." etc.  You pretty much repeat everything we say now.  We also discovered that you can sing baa baa black sheep.  One day you just broke out into the song.  Who knows how many other songs you have in your repertoire.

This month you seemed to be very attached to Mommy and Daddy.  I'm thinking that maybe you are getting your 2 year old molars in, but of course that's just a guess.  You constantly say "up Mommy" or "up Daddy" because you want us to hold you.  I'm definitely not complaining about the extra snuggles though!  Mommy loves them!

I tried really hard to start limiting your paci ("that") this month by not allowing it in the car anymore.  Let's just say we made it about a week and a half and you now have it back in the car.  Haha.  This mama wasn't tough enough and gave in.  I'll just wait and tackle that challenge another week.  :)

You continue to test your lmits at home and as a result, the timeouts continue.  I do feel like the hitting has gotten better though, so I count that as a success.  Getting out the door in the mornings has started to become a challenge.  You think it's a game when I tell you it's time to leave and you run away from me while trying to get out the door and into the car.  Sigh.  You have started to throw the mother of all tantrums lately.  You will get so worked up that you will cry until you turn blue or cause yourself to throw up.  Let me just tell you how fun this game is!  We're at the point now where we usually give in to you in order to prevent this from happening.

Starting this month you have gotten really good about telling us when you go "tee tee" or "poo poo"  in your diaper. For about a week, Daddy would wrap you in your towel after bathtime and you would go squat on the carpet outside the bathroom and pee.  :(  So now we sit you on the potty after bathtime each night.  You haven't gone yet, but it has seemed to stop the peeing on the floor.  Haha.

You and your sister continue to have a love/hate relationship.  Most times you guys love each other, but occasionally you will push your sister's buttons so badly or she will taunt you with a toy and you will scream and cry until you get your way.  You hate to see her upset and sad though and will always go over and give her hugs and kisses to make her feel better.

Can I just say how much I love being a boy mom?  I know I've said it in the past, but there's just something about you, Bud, that I can't get enough of.  Maybe it's all your snuggles or that big smile on your face when you're testing your boundaries, but gosh I love you so much Little Man!!

These pictures are the reason why I prefer not to have to take a shower and get ready when I'm home alone with both kids.  This happens every single time!

Evan's First Day in Early Preschool 1 (EPS1)

Today was Evan's first full day in the EPS1 class at school.  He started transitioning last week, but he would only spend part of each day in his new class.  There aren't too many big changes from the young toddler room, mainly just that he'll be drinking out of a regular cup instead of a sippy cup. One of his teachers, Ms. Carolyn, used to be in the toddler room, so it's nice that he knows one of the teachers.  He also has 2 other teachers, Ms. Michelle and Ms. KiAshley.  This is the class Evan was used to eating breakfast in each morning, so I think that helped with his transition.  The only thing that threw him off this morning was that we didn't walk in the toddler room first to hang his bag up.  Instead we just walked into the EPS1 class.  He transitioned with 2 of his friends from the toddler room, Dani and Tristan, so that always helps too.  The 3 of them have been together since the infant room and their birthdays are all within 2 weeks of each other.

Overall, it sounds like he had a good day.  I did notice his daily sheet said he only napped for 1 hour instead of his normal 2.  I'm hoping it's just the new class that's throwing him off and soon he'll be back to his normal 2 hours.

And just because you all know I love the comparison pics, I couldn't help myself.  It's crazy to me how much he has grown since he has started at Primrose!
