A Day In The Life (Friday)

A few blogs that I read have been doing posts about what a typical day is like for them.  I thought it would be fun to do too.  Of course, at our house our weekdays are way different than our weekends, so I thought I would break it up into 2 different posts.  I started taking pics on my phone this morning since I didn't think we would have our computer back yet, but Shawn picked it up this afternoon, so I switched back to my regular camera for the afternoon pics.

5:30 am - Wake up time (for me and Shawn).  My clock is set 10 minutes ahead of time.  Makes me feel like I'm sleeping in 10 min. longer than I really am.  I get in the shower while Shawn eats breakfast and then we switch.  He usually leaves for work around 6:15.  I'm still getting ready.

Breakfast of champions.  Shawn and I both have cereal each morning during the week.

6:45 am - I let Em sleep in as late as I possibly can.  We have daycare feed her breakfast, so she can sleep in even later.  Most mornings, she's still sleeping and I have to wake her up.  It takes her a little bit to get moving in the morning, but once she's up, she's usually very happy.  She had a hard time going to bed last night so I let her sleep in a little later this morning.  After I get her dressed, we head downstairs for some milk and a quick snack.

Still fast asleep when I went in her room this morning. . .

It's not easy being woken up, but once she's up, she's usually in a good mood!

7:05 - We're out the door.  I usually like to be out the door by 7:00 so I beat some traffic.  I love my time in the car with her on our way to school.  We'll usually dance and sing.  This morning she started yelling "mama", so I would yell "emily."  This went on most of the car drive to school.  She kept cracking up.  Since she's been in the EPS1 room at school, she cries every morning when I drop her off.  It still is very hard for me to leave her, but now that it's been going on several weeks, it isn't as hard.  Plus, I know she stops shortly after I leave.   I'm usually at work around 7:50 or so.  There has been construction on the road I take to work this week, so I've been getting to work a little later than normal.

Not the best pics, but here is where I spend the majority of my time during the week.  I just switched positions at work and am technically now part of the IT dept.  A few perks I get are dual monitors, a laptop, and a window cube.  Notice all the candy/snacks in my cube.  The girl that recently left used to be the candy provider for my area.  I'm trying to keep her stockpile going.

Not the best view, but I'm loving having a window.  My entire back wall is windows.

5:00 - I head home from work.  This is usually around the time Shawn is picking Em up from school.  Today, he snuck out early and picked her up by 4.  She's always so happy when she gets picked up from school.  She especially loves Friday because they make chocolate chip cookies and have them at the front desk.  Em always seems to know when it's cookie day.

5:45 - I usually arrive home from work around this time.  Traffic was a little lighter today, so I got home closer to 5:30.  Shawn and Em were upstairs playing when I got home. They came up with a new game. . . carry Em around in the basket.  They had to show me.  She couldn't get enough of it!

Each day at school, they make a craft.  Here's Em showing me what she made today.

6:00 - Shawn will start cooking dinner around this time while I play with Em.  Tonight I had requested wings for dinner.  While he grilled, Em and I played outside and colored.  She was a little crankier than normal because of her late bedtime last night.  Since dinner ended up taking longer to cook than normal, she stayed up a little later tonight.

We had to take a breather after a while.  It was 104 today and the heat index got to 110.  It was HOT!!

While we enjoyed our wings, Em enjoyed her easy mac and hot dog.  One of her favs.

And I can't forget to show Shawn's new shoes.  During lunch today he went to the New Balance store and got new shoes and custom made insoles.  His feet and hips have been bothering him lately when he works out, so he wanted some new shoes.  He's so proud of them.  I haven't stopped hearing about how they are extremely light and weigh less than an apple.

7:00 - While I'm cleaning up the dishes from dinner, Shawn will take Em upstairs for bathtime.  This is still one of her favorite times of the day.  Tonight when Shawn asked her if she was ready for a tub, she yelled "yes."  She was tired and ready for the night time routine to start.

After bathtime tonight we had a new first.  When Em gets out of the tub, she'll normally yell for me from the top of the stairs.  I'll stand at the bottom of the stairs and tell her to go see Dada to get dressed. Well, tonight while she was at the top of the stairs, she squatted down. I thought she was just playing, until I saw it.  Yep, she pooped on the carpet.  I'm sure this won't be the last time since we haven't even started the potty training adventure, but it was certainly the first and caught Shawn and I way off guard!

7:15 - Shawn brings Em downstairs in her jammies and her and I sit on the couch and watch some TV while she has her milk.  Usually around 7:30, I ask her to go give Daddy a hug and kiss, which she usually does willingly and then her and I head upstairs to brush her teeth and go night-night.

7:45 - Shawn and I have some free time for the first time all day.  Usually we're watching TV or I'm catching up on my magazines or blogging.

10:00  - Usually we're in bed where we'll watch TV for 30 min. or so before calling it a night and starting all over the next day.
