I was so excited for this day to finally arrive. School had just gotten out the day before and after scrambling to get us all packed, we were ready to go! Our flight left bright and early - 6:45 am. We met up with our friends at the airport and made our way to Orlando.
The flight was uneventful, but that changed once we got to the airport. There were 2 escalators that went down to the baggage claim area. Evan decided to get on 1 of them, while the rest of us were on the one immediately next to it. All of a sudden we saw him crying and realized his foot was stuck. Thankfully, there must have been some safety mechanism on the escalator that made it stop. As Shawn started yelling "help, help", I ran up the escalator and tried to pull his foot out. I was terrified that his toes had become caught in the escalator, but luckily, he was able to slip his foot out of his shoe and aside from a few scrapes and bruises, he was fine. It scared him more than anything. I know it could have ended really badly, so I was very thankful it wasn't worse! Shawn and Evan waited about 30 min. for a maintenance person to come and get his shoe out, while the rest of us headed to get our luggage. They had to take apart a portion of the escalator to get it out. Thank goodness for the natives that he had on - the escalator took a big chunk out of the bottom of it, but other than that, they were in perfect condition. It was definitely not how I was expecting our trip to start out!

| Everyone is happy again. More waiting. .this time for the rental cars. |
After finally making it out of the airport and picking up our rental car, we made the drive closer to the port to have lunch and check in to our hotel. Our hotel was right on the beach, so we spent the afternoon swimming in the ocean and then going to the pool. After our early morning, we called it a night pretty early and were all excited about boarding the ship the next day.
