Dear Evan (my little man),
You are six months old today! That's half a year! Mommy is not ready for you to be so old already.
Unfortunately, you've had a bit of a rough month with being sick. You had some kind of virus for the majority of the month. Along with it came a runny nose, congestion, cough, and worst of all an ear infection. :( Since you've been sick, you have not been sleeping well at all. I swear as soon as we get you sleeping through the night, something happens and throws you all off again. There were nights where you were up 1-2 times every hour. As a result, you have spent many nights this month sleeping in your swing. Being more up right helps you sleep much better! We have made some progress this week though. We decided it was time to just let you cry it out. As a result, you have slept through the night most nights this week. Gosh, I hope it continues! You are wearing your Mommy out!
We celebrated your first Thanksgiving this month, although you didn't get to enjoy it too much because you were sick.
Daddy has taught you how to splash in the tub and now you go crazy kicking away. Daddy gives you a bath every night now. We wanted to help you know when the bedtime routine was starting.
Besides being more fussy this month because you were sick, you are still such a happy boy. You still tend to grunt more than cry to let us know you aren't happy. You are doing so much better in the car now. You can still get fussy, but it's not usually the entire car ride anymore.
You've been working on sitting up this month. You can sit for 15 seconds or so when you have the boppy around you, but you're not able to sit on your own yet.. Hopefully it won't be long though until you are stable on your own. This month you have started to blow raspberries and "talk." You will say "la, la, la" and "da, da, da" over and over again. I'm working hard on getting you to say "ma, ma, ma." I want to make sure when you start saying words "mama" comes before "dada." :) You also have this high pitch scream that you do. I'm just loving that you have found your voice!
We've started giving you oatmeal and baby food consistently over the last week. We're working up to 3 meals a day, but as of now, you are just getting food at night (half a jar of stage 1 food and some oatmeal). So far, I can already tell you are going to be a much bigger fan of baby food then your sister was. In addition to the oatmeal, you have tried bananas and sweet potatoes. Both seem to be winners. We've had a rough month as far as bottles are concerned. Since you've been sick and had a lot of congestion, there are many times the bottles come straight back up as soon as you are finished with them. Let's just say, Mommy is very ready for you to be feeling better. I'm so tired of doing all this laundry! As a result of not eating well this month, your weight dropped quite a bit this month at your checkup. :( Hopefully by next visit, we can get some more weight on you! Starting this month, you will now hold your own bottle when we feed you. We have to help you tip it at the very end of the bottle, but Mommy loves having my hands free while feeding you!
We just got a letter from school that says at the end of the month you will be transitioning to the older side of the infant room. It's kind of sad for Mommy, knowing that you won't be the youngest at school anymore! Your teachers still tell me you are such a people person and love having your friends close by. If there's another baby on the mat with you, you will often times reach out to hold their hand. :)
You still love your paci. I've noticed that you still suck even when you don't have a paci in your mouth. It's pretty cute.
I still can't believe you are already 6 months old. I know the next 6 will fly by just as fast. I love you so much, my blue-eyed boy! :)
