Evan - 3.5 Year Old Update

Evan,

I can't believe you're already half way to being 4!  I like to do a mid year update during these younger years since so much still changes from month to month.

Ever since we moved you into a big boy bed, our awesome sleeper has turned into a not so awesome sleeper.  :(  You stall like crazy at bedtime and usually come out of your room several times before finally calling it a night.  Once you do fall asleep, we can usually expect you to come out at least once during the night.  You like to wander into Mommy and Daddy's room and sneak in the bed.  Depending on the time, we sometimes let you get away with this and other times, we bring you back to your bed.  No matter where you sleep, you are a very early riser.  I would say you most consistently way up around 5:30 -5:45, although there are some mornings that it's even earlier.  Oh how I can't wait until you sleep in again!  On the weekends you fight naps, even though you still very much need one!  You'd be fine without a nap, if you would just sleep until a normal hour in the mornings, but of course you don't.  If you don't nap, you usually end up passing out on the couch around 5:00 or so and are just super grumpy all afternoon.  I'm not sure if you are afraid you're going to miss something during your naps or what.  Usually you still take one during the week at school.

Potty training is going really well.  You have been fully potty trained at school for over 6 months, but for a long time you were still very inconsistent at home.  I think you just didn't want to stop what you were doing, nor did you care about sitting in a wet/dirty pull up.  In the last couple of months though, you have really started making big strides and very rarely have an accident at home.  You will initiate and go to the bathroom all by yourself at home now.  The only time we do still occasionally put you in a pull up during the day is when we are running errands and will be gone for a long amount of time.  You are no where near close to being night time trained.  You sleep with a pull up on and by morning it is soaked through.  Only once have you gotten up in the middle of the night to go potty.  If you're anything like your sister though, I know night time training is still a ways off.  I'm not too worried about it right now.

You are now in the Preschool class at school.  You have absolutely thrived in this class and I'm always so amazed at how much you know.  You know how to spell your name and can name / recognize quite a bit of your letters and numbers.  You know all the days of the week and can say most of your colors in Spanish.  You have been in a soccer shots class at school for the last year or so and seem to like it.  We'll be signing you up for a real soccer team next Fall.  You were old enough this Fall, but thought since you'll be the youngest on the team, it would be good to give you one more year of practice.  You have also been taking a football class at school and in a few weeks you will start swim lessons once again.

You want to be just like your Daddy!  You want to mow the lawn, use your tools to fix things, wear white t-shirts, etc.  You often will say things like, "When I'm a Daddy, I'll be able to. . .."

You and your sister love to push each others buttons.  There are so many times when I feel like all you guys do is argue with each other.  I often say, "why can't you just love each other?"  I'm not sure if all this fighting is normal, but it sure does drive me and your Daddy crazy!  Don't get me wrong, there are occasions where you are each others best friends, but it's all the fighting that sure stands out in my head.

We are full into the threenager stage.  You can throw a tantrum like no other and really test your limits.  If you don't want to do something, you sure let us know.  I'm hoping we'll be past this stage soon!!  Even though you can be stubborn and not listen quite often, you can be so sweet.  You have so many of the teachers at your school wrapped around your finger.  Most nights I pick you up at school, I find you snuggled up in a teacher's lap. You are still the best snuggler in the house and are always willing to give me big hugs and kisses.

Even though there are times when you can drive us crazy, I love you more than anything little man. They always say there is something special about the relationship between a boy and his mommy and I didn't know it was true until I had you.   I really can't imagine life without you!  Love you, Bud!

Love,
Mommy
