Twenty Four Months

Dear Evan,

I might or might not have a tear in my eye as I'm writing this.  My baby is 2!!!  How could that be possible!?  Just like with Em, I will be making the request that you stay little forever.  Even though this age can be tough at times, I love it and wish I could just bottle you up.  I'm sad knowing that the baby of our family isn't a baby anymore and that this will officially be your last monthly post!  From now on I'll just do occasional updates.

Starting this month you are no longer drinking whole milk.  We've switched you over to 2%.  Your appetite continues to decrease.  We sit down as a family for dinner every night and you are always the first one to get up.  Most times you eat the fruit on your plate and that's it.  Shawn jokes that you might just be a vegetarian.  Either that or you are getting those 2 year old molars in and we just don't realize it.  You have moved up to the big table at dinner.  Instead of the high chair, you now sit in Em's old booster seat.  I realized this month that you might be a lefty.  It's hard to tell, but you seem to favor your left hand, especially when you use a fork or spoon at meal time.

Bedtime has been a little harder this month.  We've moved it back to almost 8:00 and even then, you do a lot of stalling each night.  You want to read 3-4 books instead of just 1 and you insist on many hugs and kisses. You also want me to sing and hold you while I sing rock a bye baby.   After I give you hugs and kisses you request that Daddy come up and give you hugs and kisses too.  There are many nights that I don't even know how you sleep in your crib because it is so full of the blankets, books, toys and animals that you have insisted on sleeping with.  I will say that one good thing has come at bedtime. . .brushing teeth.  It's still not easy, but it's definitely getting better!  I can usually get a few good swipes with the toothbrush before you run off.

You continue to be very mischievous and love to test your limits.  You still run and climb on everything.  We still occasionally get incident reports at school that you hit your friends.  This makes me sad to hear and I hope this phase will be over soon.

You're still talking up a storm and I laugh at the new things that come out of your mouth.  You repeat things over and over until we acknowledge you.  One of my new favorite things that you do is say "spooky" every time we turn off a light. It makes me laugh every time.

You have known for several weeks that your birthday was coming.  Whenever we would ask you who's birthday was coming, you would say Evan with a huge smile on your face and tell us you will be 2.  You sing Happy Birthday to Evan a lot.  :)

Evan, no matter how old you are, you will always be my baby.  I love you more than you could ever possibly know and I can't even remember life without you in it.  Your personality is bigger than life and as I remember my pregnancy with you, it all makes perfect sense now.  You have so much energy and and can never sit still. You want to run through life instead of walk and you want to jump through it instead of step.  You truly are the baby boy I had hoped for.  I can't wait to see what the next year has in store for you!  I love you, Bud!

Love,
Mommy
