We planned to spend the entire day in Coronado on Thursday. I was a little nervous leading up to this day because it was showing rain all day, but we couldn't have had better weather this day. It was definitely chilly - in the 50's / 60's, but when the sun came out, it wasn't bad at all! Evan was dying to put his feet in the ocean, so I took him down to the water after breakfast and before I knew it he was knee deep in the water. After much reluctancy, I let him change into his swimsuit and he then spent the next several hours playing in the waves and hunting for sea shells The water was freezing and in fact, he was the only person in the water, but he loved every minute of it! Emily and I grabbed some lunch and Evan was still in the water when we got done. Funny story. . Em and I brought some pizza down to Shawn and Evan on the beach and when Shawn opened up the pizza box he was swarmed by a dozen seagulls. It was a pretty funny sight.
The Del Coronado had an ice skating rink right on the beach. It had been closed the day before because of the rain, but with the sun coming out this day, it opened up in the afternoon. It was the idea of ice skating that finally got Evan out of the ocean. Unfortunately the rink was not very frozen and they ended up skating in quite a puddle of water. After about 30 min. they were done. But at least they can say they ice skated on the beach!
We went to dinner in town instead of staying at the hotel. It was much more budget friendly! Afterwards the kids enjoyed the robes they found in the room.
We left the next afternoon, but that meant Evan still got 1 more morning to swim in the ocean. He was sad to leave!
We made it home with time to still see the ball drop for NYE!
