Hollywood, FL Trip - Day 2: Hitting the Beach and Touring the Everglades

We woke up bright and early Tuesday morning and headed down to the beach.  I was a bit worried as to how the kids would like the beach since last time we went neither kid loved it.  Em started off saying the sand and saltwater irritated her skin, but before long she decided it wasn't so bad.  Evan loved it right away and kept wanting to swim farther and farther out.  The only issue with him was trying to get him to wear his goggles because he did not like it when saltwater got in his eyes. The kids favorite thing to do was search for seashells.  They found a ton!

We stayed down at the beach for several hours and then went and got some lunch at the restaurant by the pool.  Evan found a coconut laying on the ground and spent our whole lunch trying to convince us that he needed to take it home with him.  He so badly wanted to plant a coconut tree in our backyard.

After a quick swim in the pool, we headed back to the room to get cleaned up and changed.  We drove into Ft. Lauderdale to the Everglades Holiday Park to take an airboat tour of the Everglades.   It started raining as soon as we got there, but luckily only lasted a few minutes.  We all enjoyed the airboat tour and the alligator show afterwards. We saw 5 or 6 alligators in the water during the boat ride and some got super close to the boat!

Both kids fell asleep shortly after we got in the car.

Evan was not happy that he had to wear a life jacket. . kids under 5 had to wear them.

Evan refused to open his eyes for the picture. . .sigh.

Our tour guide made the kids necklaces from some of the plants in the everglades.

After the alligator show, we went to dinner at the same restaurant that Shawn and I ate at last year in Ft. Lauderdale, Coconuts.  By this time, both kids were pretty cranky and we were just trying to make it through dinner!

We headed back to the hotel to call it a night after dinner.  Of course, things never go as planned.  During the day, our hotel was switching out the door locks on each of the rooms.  Lucky for us, the new key they had given us didn't work.  After trying several keys, they realized there was a problem with the actual lock and not the keys.  So we spent the next hour waiting for the hotel staff to figure out how to get us into our room.  They ended up moving us into the room next door while we waited and about 30 minutes after that, they were finally able to get the door open.  So then Shawn and I moved everything from our old room to our new room while they put a brand new lock on the door.  We were just glad the ordeal was over and we could finally get the kids to bed!  We got a surprise knock on the door not too long later and in comes a huge tray of snacks and beer and a note thanking us for our patience.  And don't worry, we may have gotten a good size credit on our bill too.  :)

The kids enjoyed the cookies, chips, pretzels, and candy!
