Evan Update - 2.5

Evan,

I can't believe my little man is already 2.5!  Slow down time!  You've changed so much since you turned 2, that I thought it was a good time to write down everything you've been up to.

The most exciting news is that you are well on your way to being potty trained.  You wear big boy undies everyday at school and rarely have accidents anymore.  I'll admit that we aren't always on top of our game at home and you usually stay in pull ups.  Maybe after the new year we'll commit to big boy undies at home too.  I've always heard training a boy is harder than a girl, but so far you seem to be just about as easy as your sister.

You now have all your baby teeth in.  Those 2 year old molars seemed to take forever, but they are finally all in.  You went for your first trip to the dentist a month ago and although you were not sure about it all, you did well.

You have learned a lot in the last 6 months.  You can count to 10 in Spanish, say the pledge of allegiance and you even recognize some of your letters.  You are a smart one, little man!

You love to do things your Daddy does.  You love playing with your tools and are always pretending to mow the lawn and use an edger and blower.  You also love to build things.  Legos are one of your favorites right now .  The CD player and listening to music is another one .  But that doesn't mean you don't love some of your sister's things too.  You have no problem carrying around her purses, playing in her kitchen or pushing around her baby dolls in the stroller.  Frozen is by far your favorite movie.  You request to watch it at least once a day.  You constantly reenact the opening ice scene. You love reading books and collecting all the little toys and putting them in tupperware.  You do not love to share your things.  You love playing with your sister's toys, but are not a fan of her playing with yours.  You also do not like to pick up your toys.  When we ask you, you constantly come up with excuses (ie. your hands are full or you're too tired).  Getting you to pick up your toys is like pulling teeth and usually results in you in tears picking them up as slowly as possible.

You love to wrestle and play rough.  I can't even begin to count the number of bruises you have had on your poor head.  I can't complain though because you will still snuggle with me too.  You give some of the best hugs little man and I adore them.  You can be stubborn and want to do everything yourself (ie. turn on lights, open up the fridge, etc).  Your new thing is to carry your little chair over to the pantry and help yourself to snacks. Usually when you try to do things yourself, it can cause a lot of frustration on your part and that can lead to an all out laying on the floor tantrum.  I think I've mentioned this in the past, but when you get upset you will often hold your breath.  This usually leads to you turning blue and us being scared to death.   Most often than not we can get you to take a breath and you're fine, but one time a couple months ago, you actually passed out in my arms.  Your Daddy saw it too and it was so scary.  Luckily once you passed out, you started breathing again and before we knew it you were running around.  The dr. said they are breath holding spells and you should grow out of them by age 3.  Let's hope so!  You are very mischievous still and get into trouble quite often.  You are so silly too and can constantly make me laugh.

You are still sleeping in your crib.  Our plan is to move you to a big boy bed after the beginning of the year.  My thinking is that you sleep so well in a crib, why mess with it just yet.  But I know you're ready, so we'll make the move soon.  You still are extremely attached to your paci.  It's in your mouth all the time at home and in your crib.  Getting rid of the paci is going to be our biggest challenge.  I have noticed when you don't have it and you get upset, you replace it with 2 of your fingers.  Because of that, I'm not pushing to get completely rid of it yet.  I'd much rather deal with a paci than with fingers.

You got your first ear infection in quite some time.  One of your tubes is out and the other one is still in place.  The infection was in the ear with the tube.  I'm just hoping once they both come out, that the infections don't start up again.

These last 6 months have flown by and I know that we'll be celebrating your third birthday before we know it.  I love you, my little man!

Love,
Mommy
