Dear Evan,
Aaahhh, how is it that you will be TWO in just 1 month??! I'm so far behind on the party planning, which is totally not like me. But I think I'm just in denial that maybe if I don't plan it, your birthday won't come? My baby is growing up and it's very hard for this mama to accept!
You are still a busy, BUSY little boy! Why walk, when you can run? You are still my little bulldozer and can tear up a room in seconds flat. You love to be outside and just run around. Often times we have to drag you inside. I laugh when people come over to our house and are alarmed at the things you do. To us, it's just second nature now to see you on top of tables, scaling the stairs, and dragging your chair around to use as a step stool.
You continue to have quite the little crush on Em's friend, Aubrey. Several times a day you pull your chair over to the counter, grab the phone and pretend to chat with Aubrey. If the phone rings, you immediately think it's Aubrey. Apparently one of your teachers has discovered your crush and when you are behaving badly, she will threaten to tell Aubrey and you will immediately stop whatever it is you are doing. Haha. Whatever it takes!
You've learned lots of new things this month. You can count up to 13 and can now sing the entire ABC song. You know several nursery rhymes: Mary Had A Little Lamb, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Hickory Dickory Dock, 3 Blind Mice, etc. You started talking in sentences last month and continue to have full conversations with us. You will say things like "I see you, Daddy" and "I need more water" and "Thank you, Mommy" and "I'm all done." I truly am amazed at your verbal skills, little man.
Starting this month you've been giving us a run for our money at bedtime. Up until now you were always my easy child at bedtime. I would read you a story, put you in your crib and you would immediately lay down and go to sleep. Unfortunately, ever since we got back from our trip, you have become more difficult. You insist on rocking again after your story and when I put you in your crib you ask for several hugs and kisses. When I try to leave the room you start yelling Mommy and if I just leave, you start crying. Daddy has been a softy and will usually go in and give you more hugs before finally telling you it's time to lay down. I'm thinking this is just a game and hoping it will pass quickly. As a result of all of this, your bedtime has been moved back to closer to 7:45 or 8:00.
You've had a little bit of trouble with hitting and pushing this month. You like to play rough! This doesn't go over well with your teachers and friends at school. I think you're getting your fair share of time outs at school! One of your teachers said you are a leader in the class and if all your friends see you hitting, they will start hitting too. Your teacher said it's hard to get upset with you though because you're just so darn cute. I laughed and said I have the same problem at home. Although I said even though you're cute, we both need to be stern with you to nip this in the butt. You continue to get upset when you don't get your way. Often times you will start screaming and crying and stomping your feet. But as soon as you get what you want, those tears turn off immediately.
We discovered that you most likely have a peanut allergy. Ever since the reaction, your skin has just looked awful. It's been super dry and we just can't get the eczema to go away. I think a trip to the allergist is in your near future.
You finished up your swim lessons this month. The teacher told your Daddy that you are an advanced swimmer. I'm not really sure what that means for a 1 year old, but I'm excited to see you in the pool this summer. You're going to take a break on swim lessons now until next Spring.
We have 1 more month of you being a 1 year old. Ahhh! I'm going to try and enjoy every last minute with my 1 year old. I love you, little man. . .more than you will ever know!
Love,
Mommy
