I haven't done a post on Em since her 4th birthday, so I thought it was time to mention all the things she's been up to lately.
Em continues to be a very busy girl with all her activities. After doing soccer in the fall, she decided she wanted to take a break from it. Now she's doing gymnastics, dance and swim lessons. It's still up in the air as to whether or not she'll pick soccer back up or not. Some days she wants to and other days she doesn't. But for right now, she's fully enjoying all the other activities that she is in.
She's almost done with her first year of Pre-K. With her Fall birthday, she'll do another year next year. I'm so thankful now that she doesn't meet the cutoff for Kindergarten yet. This mama is just not ready for that step yet!
Over the last several months her artistic skills have really taken off. This girl loves to draw and is quite good at it. I have loved seeing how the pictures she brings home each day from school have evolved so much since the beginning of the year. She's definitely got the creative gene that I'm lacking. Em's writing skills have also progressed a ton. She can write her name very well. She can usually copy other words too if we write them down first to show her.
Em continues to be quite the little leader at school. She loves to be in charge! Her teachers have told us that they have to make up helper jobs (ie. clipboard manager) just for Em because she gets sad if she doesn't have something to help with. There have been several times I have picked her up from school and she'll be covered in paint and I'll jokingly ask her if she painted herself or the paper and she'll say, oh I was just helping Ms. Holly wash the paint jars out in the sink. A friend's mom told that one morning before the class officially started, they saw Em directing all the girls over to the rug, had them sit down and "read" them all a story. I could definitely see Em being a teacher when she grows up. She loves to have an audience to listen to her. :)
Emily definitely has an independent side! She likes to do what she wants to do and when she wants to do it. We can rarely get her to nap on the weekends anymore. Most times, we still ask her to go to her room and have quiet time. Usually I will hear her playing in her room and sometimes I will go in and ask her to lay in bed and close her eyes. She will respond by saying, ok, but as soon as you leave I'm going to get up and play again. I definitely can't fault her for being honest.
Em continues to be a silly, outgoing child, but can be shy and sensitive at times too. Her feelings can get hurt easily. She tends to gravitate towards having just a few really close friends instead of having a ton of acquaintances. She's opinionated and prefers to do things her way. Gone are the days of me getting to pick out her outfits!
I get sad when I think about the fact that in a few short months Em will be 5. That seems like such a milestone birthday to me. It means Kindergarten is coming and my first baby is growing up! I still constantly ask her if she will just stay little for me, but she insists she needs to grow up and get bigger, because according to her, she doesn't want to stay 4 forever. Right now, I'm just trying to bottle up all the 4 year old memories I can! I love you, my sweet pea, and can't wait to see what the rest of the year holds for you!
