Thirteen Months

Evan,

I decided to continue your monthly posts until you are 2.  I did the same with your sister and I love having everything written down.

So much has changed with you in the last couple of months.  It's crazy how much you have learned recently.  We can really see that things seem to be clicking and your understanding of how things work has increased so much.  You said your first word (besides mama and dada). . ball.  You love playing with any kind of ball and walk around saying it.  It's funny because this was Emily's first word too!  You've also gotten good at saying "wa wa" (water) and "bye bye".  You have learned the signs for "all done" and "more" and you use them pretty regularly.  Mealtime has gotten so much easier now that you can communicate with us some.  You are great at following directions.  It makes me realize just how much you understand.  You know that a brush is used to brush your hair and a phone is used to talk on.  Often times I will find you walking around with a play phone held up to your ear.  When you get frustrated, you scream.  I know this is just because you don't know how to ask for help yet.

You continue to be into everything!  You walk so quickly now that I sometimes feel like you are already running.  You still love to push  / move stuff around.  Our furniture continues to be rearranged daily.  You love climbing up the stairs and we have to repeatedly tell you that can only go up to the 2nd step when Mommy and Daddy aren't with you.  If we let you though, you can climb up all the stairs.  You love to shut doors, even if that means you are locked inside a dark room.  We've now learned to keep all the doors to the bedrooms shut.  You are definitely going to be our mischievous child!

You are strong!  I struggle when I have to hold you down for a diaper change. You love to play rough!  You tackle your sister and throw yourself over furniture and then laugh.  Sometimes we have to remind you that you need to be gentle.

You're still on bottles, but you do like having whole milk in a sippy cup.  The only reason you are still getting bottles is because you're still in the infant room at school.  I know you wouldn't be happy seeing your friends get them and not get one yourself.  Once you move to the young toddler room, I think it will be a piece of cake to drop the 2 daytime bottles.  At this point, I feel like the bottles are more of a comfort thing than anything else.  Your appetite seems to have decreased a bit.  You now leave food on your plate at the end of each meal.  You love fruit and that always seems to be the first thing you eat at any meal.

This month we've started to see some fighting between you and your sister.  I was hoping we wouldn't see this until you were older.  You guys fight over toys more than anything.  I would still say though that it doesn't happen too often.

You still love your paci and your lovey.  These are the 2 things you always have to fall asleep and you like to have them when you are fussy too.  In a few months I'm hoping to start limiting your paci to just your crib, but for now I'm not really pushing it too hard.   You hate brushing your teeth!  Just like with your sister, I literally have to hold you down to brush them each day.  Oh why can't my children just be easy when it comes to brushing teeth?
