San Antonio Trip Day 1 - San Antonio Here We Come!

2 weeks ago on Monday morning we packed up the car (Joe's tahoe) and headed out for our drive to San Antonio.  I was super excited.  We were meeting our friends, The Gists and Hendricks, there too.  We've had this trip planned for months and I couldn't have been more ready for it!
It's a good thing we had a tahoe because it was stuffed to the brim!

We turned Evan's carseat around for the trip.  He loved looking forward and sitting right next to Em.

Both kids did so well on the ride down!  Evan slept about an hour and a half on the first leg of the trip.  He woke up just in time to stop in West to have some kolaches for lunch.  Then both kids fell asleep until we were about an hour outside of San Antonio.  We made the drive in record time.  We left around 10:00 and arrived a little after 3:00.  That was with a 30 minute stop for lunch!

We stayed at the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch.  It's right across the street from the Hyatt Hill Country Resort.  The only difference is this resort has condos vs. the standard hotel rooms.  With 6 adults and 5 kids, we knew we'd need a living area and kitchen.  We had access to the Hyatt Hill Country, but we never made it over there.

We arrived first and got checked in and unloaded the car.  We were supposed to have a 3 bedroom condo, but somehow ended up with a 2 bedroom condo and a 1 bedroom studio.   I'm not sure if that's because we changed our reservation from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom or if they are all like this.  I will say that I was a bit disappointed in the size of the living area in the condo.  Shawn had to rearrange the furniture just so the kids could play on the floor.  The balcony was a bit small too - however, the balcony on the studio room was huge.  That makes sense, right?  The only other thing I was disappointed about was the cleanliness of the room.  Hotel rooms gross me out to begin with, but I felt like they didn't do a good job at even covering up the dirt.  Needless to say, for the price we paid, I was a bit underwhelmed on the rooms.

The living area - this is how the furniture was setup before we moved it to allow room for the kids to play.

After unpacking, we headed out to start exploring the resort.  Right as we headed out, the Gists arrived and joined us for a tour.  While I was disappointed in the rooms, I was super impressed with the actual resort.  There was a lazy river, huge indoor/outdoor pool, splash pad, water slides, playground, putting greens and more.  I knew we definitely wouldn't run out of things to do.

After exploring for a bit, we all headed back to the condo to await the arrival of the Hendricks.  I couldn't wait for them to get there.  It had been almost a year since we had seen them.  Emily was super excited to see Leah and I couldn't wait to get my hands on Lane.  He was just a baby last time I saw him.

Once everyone arrived, we split up rooms and got unpacked.  We had planned to go grocery shopping once everyone got there, but things don't always go as planned when you have little ones.  The babies were all getting tired and hungry, so Shawn ducked out and grabbed a salad and some bread.  He had made some pasta the night before and we brought it with us for dinner the first night.  I'm so glad we did as it was one less thing to have to worry about.  We fed the kids, gave baths and put the babies to bed.  We set Leah and Em up on the sofa bed with a movie playing.  I really wasn't sure how Em would do not being with us at night, but she loved having a "sleepover" with Leah each night!  Us adults finally ate dinner and just sat on the balcony catching up before heading to bed for the night.
