Evan's 1st Birthday Party

Saturday afternoon we celebrated Evan's first birthday with all 30 of our closest family members and friends.   We rarely get together with both of our families at the same time, so I was just excited to see everyone.  I had the hardest time deciding on a theme for his party, but after much deliberation I went with a cowboy theme.

Evan figured out pretty quickly that morning that something was going on.  He was getting so excited as we put up the decorations and brought home balloons.  Luckily, he had a good morning nap because there was no way he was going to sleep in the afternoon.

Shawn and I scrambled to get everything ready and around 4:00 everyone arrived.

Each of the kids got a cowboy hat and bandana.

This is obviously before we put the food out, but we served hamburgers, hotdogs, fruit salad, pasta salad and chips and dip.

For drinks we had peach sangria, beer, water, lemonade and coke.

I ordered the cupcakes from Market Street.  They were really yummy.

Evan's smash cake came from Frost-it Cafe.  Evan thought it was delicious.  :)

I made a banner with all of his monthly chair pics.

All the kids loved playing outside and in the gameroom.  In fact, I hardly saw any of the older kids during the party.  Even though it was hot, it could have been much worse.  It was a bit overcast and that helped keep it a little cooler.

After everyone ate, we opened presents.  And when I say we, I mean Shawn and I.  Evan was interested in the very first present and then quickly lost interest.  I figured that would be the case.

Once presents were opened, we headed outside for cake.  I knew this would be the fun part.  Everyone told me I was very brave for giving him a cake with red icing, but I figured what the heck.  You only have a first birthday once.  :)  Just like the cupcake on his actual birthday, he devoured it.  He started attacking it before we even finished singing.  Everyone couldn't help but laugh at him.  But it didn't stop him one bit.  He just carried on eating his cake.  He loved it so much, he even tried to eat the cardboard that was sitting under the cake.  At least I can say that he fully enjoyed his birthday cake and that's all that matters to me.  After cake he was a mess and off to the bathtub he went.

He enjoyed playing with a few of his toys once he was all cleaned up.  And I was so bummed to realize that we never got a family picture while Evan had his birthday shirt on.  I had to settle for a post bath picture.

I had so much fun celebrating our little guy.  I know the first birthday party is more for the parents than the kids, but I hope he had some fun too!  It's a day I'll never forget!
