We were awoken early on Tuesday morning when the fire alarm in the building we were staying in started going off. It was quite the way to get us moving and out the door! I'm not sure if it was the altitude or not, but the first couple of nights, I hardly slept. It was terrible.
We spent the morning walking through all the shops in the downtown area. We told both kids they could buy some souvenirs this trip, so this way they could see what all was available before deciding on what they actually wanted. The weather was beautiful, just like the day before.
That afternoon, we had reservations to go horseback riding on the mountain. By now the weather had gotten much cooler and the clouds started to appear. I was just hoping we'd make our ride before the rain started. Unfortunately that's not what happened though. We all got on our horses and the group just started to go when the thunder and lightening started. I questioned whether it was safe to go on, but the guides assured us it wouldn't impact the horses and they said all the storms in CO pass by super quickly. So we continued on. Before too long it was pouring on us, so that was fun. It sure did make it colder too! Luckily I had brought raincoats for the kids and myself. Shawn was on his own. Ha. We climbed the mountain on the horses and they even walked through some smaller streams. The ride took about an hour and a half and we all really enjoyed it. The horses were super calm and thankfully it only rained on us about half the trip.
We got back to the condo and changed into some dry clothes before walking to Fatty's Pizza for dinner. We got super lucky because right as we walked up, the skies opened up and it started pouring again. We took our time eating though and by the time we were done, the storms had passed. We made a pit stop to get some ice cream on our way back to the condo.
