Breckenridge, CO - Day 1

Once things started to open back up after covid, I decided it was time to plan our summer vacation.  I looked all over the US trying to decide where we should go. . .Hawaii, Boston, Florida, Colorado, etc.  Every place was super expensive!  After a lot of back and forth, we decided to go to Breckenridge, CO.  We had only been to CO once before and that was 5 years ago, plus none of us had been to Breck.

We flew out around 11:00, which was perfect.  We didn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn, but with the time change, we still had half the day once we got to CO.  We arrived in Denver around 12:30 and after picking up our rental car, we made a quick pit stop for lunch before making the 2 hour drive to Breck.

I found an airbnb that was right in the downtown area.  We really couldn't have asked for a better location.  It was right on the river and within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and even the gondola that takes you to the base of the mountain.  The condo was all newly done and was the perfect size for us too.  It gave us more room than a normal hotel room would have given us.  With that said, there were some downsides of the condo.  It was on the 3rd floor of the building and there were no elevators.  Walking up 3 flights of stairs every time we went back to the condo was not super fun.  The building also seemed a bit old and hallways of the building were pretty musty and there was no a/c.  So while the location was great, I'm not sure I'd stay in the same building again if we ever went back.

The weather was great the day we arrived.  It was sunny and about 75, although it felt even warmer with the sun.  After unpacking, we ventured out to walk around the town and acquaint ourselves with the area.  The kids loved checking out the river that ran right behind the condo.  It was cold though!  We found a spot to eat dinner outdoors and then the kids went back to the condo, while Shawn and I ran to the store to get a few groceries for the week.  We were all looking forward to the adventures we had planned for the week!
