1st Annual Crawfish Boil

Last Saturday was our first annual Baxter Crawfish Boil.  This is something Shawn has wanted to do for several years now and we finally just decided this year was it.  I'll be honest and say I wasn't too excited about eating crawfish, but they were pretty good.  Not too different from shrimp.  We had great weather and had a great time with friends.  We're planning on making it an annual tradition. Now that we've gotten our first one under our belt, we have some things we'd change for next year to make it even better.

45 lbs of live crawfish

Several friends asked us if that big pot was ours, which made me laugh.  We rented it from the place we bought the crawfish.

We had lots of kiddos over.

It took FOREVER to boil the water in the pot.  When we returned it, we found out that a valve had been set incorrectly.  :(  Lesson learned for next year.

Poor crawfish

Jack and Emily

Grace and Evan were 2 peas in a pod.

Couldn't get a smile from them at the same time.

Crawfish is done.

Ready to eat!

Shawn dressed for the occasion.

Several of the kids tried some.  Natty wasn't sure at first, but liked it.

Told you they were 2 peas in a pod!
Poor Evan. ..at the end of the night he kept asking to go to bed and lay down.  We assumed he was just tired, but he woke up with a fever the next morning and was sick for the next 5 days.  :(
