Sixteen Months

Dear Evan,

Already time for another monthly post!  So crazy!

This has been another fun month.  You spent a lot of time this month being a good little brother and tagging along to all your sister's soccer games.  You love being able to run around outside, but sitting still and watching the game isn't really your idea of a fun time.  :)

You're still as active as ever.   In fact, you learned a new trick this month - how to climb out of your crib.  Luckily the fall must have scared you enough because you haven't attempted it again. . thank goodness.  I'm hoping this buys us a little more time.  Starting this month, you have also begun to arch your back whenever you don't want to get into your carseat.  This makes for some fun mornings, let me tell you!  I hope this is a short lived phase because you are getting too strong to where I can really do much about it.  As a result of how active you are, you got your first major bump.  You fell and tripped on a mat at school and bit your tongue - i'm talking 2 teeth through your tongue.  It bled for about 8 hours, but finally stopped.   We ended up having to keep you on motrin for about 4 days afterwards, but you did recover.  I'm not sure if it's completely healed now as you don't let me anywhere near your mouth.  I have a feeling this is just the first of many bumps/bruises in your future.  You have discovered drawers this month and love to pull out the drawers in every room you go into (kitchen, your room, bathroom, etc.).  You also continue to test your boundaries.  I've noticed that you will do something wrong and then look at us and give us the biggest smile ever and then laugh.  It's like you totally know we won't get mad at you when we see that big toothy grin.

Your vocabulary continues to grow each month.  You say more words than I can remember to write down, but here's just a few: "this, that, all done, red, yellow, pumpkin, book, ball, balloon."  Now you might not say all of the those words perfectly, but we know what you mean.  You also know a ton of animal sounds.  At school this month you have been learning your colors and they say you're pretty good at them, although I haven't tested you out at home.  You have learned to sign "please" and will do this when you want something.  You also learned how to sign "butterfly" and you will do this anytime you see one.  You love to play with the megablocks and have gotten really good at building with them.  This month you're getting pretty good at pointing to the body parts we name.  You know where your eyes, head and nose are.

Your appetite has really started to change this month.  You LOVE fruit, especially bananas (nanas).  You ask for one every day when you get home from school.  You also love carrots.   You have decided that you don't like meat this month, any kind of meat.  So not sure if you've decided to become a vegetarian or what.  You also are not a big fan of pasta.  You will sneak your meat / pasta into the pouch of your bib or put it in the cup holder on your tray and then cover it with your cup.  It's so funny because you and your sister pretty much have completely opposite tastes.  I couldn't get her to touch fruit until she was 2 and she loves most meat / pasta.   I'm hoping you decide soon that you do indeed like pasta and meat, since these are 2 things we eat a lot of.

We switched you to a big boy toothbrush this month in the hopes that you would stop fighting me when I brush your teeth, but that only lasted about a day or so and were back to not liking it.

You still love music, reading books, climbing, playing outside and wrestling.  Your favorite toys are the rollercoaster, the karoake machine/CD player, books and Em's kitchen.

We love you little guy!
