Emily's Birthday

This was the first year that Em's birthday has fallen on a weekend.  I was super excited about this since it meant I got to spend the whole day with her.

Late Saturday night, I used a good pinterest idea and filled her room up with balloons.  Unfortunately, by the morning most of the balloons had fallen to the floor, but Em still loved waking up to them.  In fact, we probably could have gotten away with just getting her balloons for her birthday (that's how much she loved playing with them).

Once everyone woke up, Shawn went downstairs and brought out Em's birthday present from us (and Evan).  We got her a new (very girly) bike and Evan got her a princess helmet to wear with it.

After checking out her bike, Shawn made a special breakfast for us - chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream.  We put some candles in them and sang happy birthday to her.

Once we finished breakfast, we opened all of her gifts from her party the day before (I think this is probably the last year, we'll be able to make her wait a whole day before opening them :) ).  She got a ton of fun gifts!

When all the gifts were opened, it was time for Shawn to head out.  He celebrated Em's birthday by going to the Cowboys game with all the guys in my family.

I was determined to do something fun with Em for her birthday, so I planned for my sister-in-law and nieces to come over after Em's nap.  It worked out perfectly.  The girls had a blast playing together (as usual) and it gave me some downtime to just sit and chat with my sister-in-law (and drink some wine :)).  Evan slept almost the whole time they were there (don't worry, I paid for that once they left).   After pizza, they headed home and it was time for bed.

I hope Em had a special day!

Oh and since Shawn left early on Em's birthday, he made up for it by picking her up from school early on Monday and taking her to the park to try out her new bike.  He said she did pretty well.  We just need to work a bit more on her pedaling and steering.
