Key Largo Trip - Day 2

Today was our first full day.  We woke up and spent the morning at the beach.  The Keys aren't known for their beaches because of the reef, but our resort had a small beach area.  They had free paddle boards and kayaks that you could take out.  The kids both loved paddle boarding.  Shawn and I didn't get into the water, as it was pretty chilly, but it didn't bother the kids.  . especially Evan.

Shawn and Evan rented a jet ski for an hour and went to explore, while Em and I stayed back on the beach and relaxed and had some lunch.

When they got back we decided we needed a change of scenery, so we got in the car and drove south to go explore some more of the Keys.  I downloaded the gypsy guide app.  It was like our own personal tour guide.  As we drove, it pointed out certain places that were worth stopping and visiting.

Our first stop was for key lime pie.  Can't go to the Florida Keys without having that, right??

We stopped at a public beach and checked it out.  We are all a bit spoiled by the beautiful beaches we've been to on past trips, so these beaches were a little disappointing.  We continued driving and made a stop at Robbie's.  This place is famous for feeding the tarpons (really huge fish).  Feeding them wasn't quite what we were expecting.  There were a TON of very aggressive pelican's that would steal the small fish right out of your hands.  Poor Evan was terrified of the pelicans. . .I mean they were almost as tall as him.

We continued driving until right before you crossed over the 7 mile bridge and stopped there for dinner at Sunset Grille.  It was a neat atmosphere.  There was a pool on property that you could swim in.  Evan really wished we had known this and had packed his swimsuit.  Who knew!?

We had about a 2 hour drive back to the hotel after dinner, so by the time we got back it was bedtime.
