The End of Swim Lessons

The kids just finished up their semester of swim lessons for the year.

This was Emily's 4th session of lessons at Emler.  She was in the super beginners class.  I'm proud of how much she has learned.  This will be her last session of lessons.  Both her and I are confident in her abilities to swim.  I can't wait to see her swim in the pool this summer.

This was Evan's first session of lessons at Emler.  He was in the aquatots class.  His lessons have been a work in progress.  When I signed him up, I mentioned I didn't want to have to get into the water with him, so they agreed to let me put him in the 3 year old class instead of the 2 year old class.  As a result he was with kids that were older and bigger than him.  Up until this year, Evan has shown no fear of the water, but these lessons brought out his fear.  He realized that he doesn't like to go under water.  After several classes where he would cry for the majority of the time, we moved him to private lessons.  He went about 4 weeks with 1 on 1 lessons from his teacher.  This helped his fear tremendously.  He learned to trust her and he was able to return to the group lessons.  It's still a work in progress for him as far as going under water, but he's come so far from where he began.  For now, we're going to take a break from lessons until next spring.  I'm hoping by waiting he'll outgrow some of his fear.
