Seventeen Months

Dear Evan,

Only 1 more month until you are a year and a half!  Slow down buddy, slow down!  I'm not ready for my baby to be a big boy.

This past month has been a busy one!  You celebrated your second Halloween, but this was your first year to go trick or treating.  To say you loved it would be an understatement.  I love that are able to participate in holidays so much more now.  We also started classes at My Gym.  Mommy has loved having some 1 on 1 time with you each Sunday morning.  You still have a little bit of stranger danger with the teachers, but I'm hoping that will pass soon.

This month you had your first major accident (aside from putting your tongue through your teeth last month).  While you and your sister were playing you fell and ended up with a black eye.  It lasted for a good 2 weeks.  You were tough though and it didn't seem to phase you one bit.  Right after your black eye healed, you got a bruise on your forehead.  Once that one healed you got one on your cheek.  Unfortunatley, I think this is going to become the norm for you.  You still love to climb and play rough.  Wrestling your sister continues to be one of your favorites.

I feel like you've made big strides in your development this month.  Your vocabulary continues to grow more and more.  You can now say "all done", "animal", "apple", "jump", "elmo", all the colors (and sign the colors) and lots of different animal names.  You know all the animal sounds too.  I love it when I see you "reading" a book and all of a sudden hear you say "roar" or "moo."  You recognize the color yellow ("lellow"), but I think that's the only one that you can pick out right now.  You know all the parts of your face and body now too.  When you have a runny nose, you know to try and wipe it with a tissue.  You know socks go on your feet and will try to put them on (unsuccessfully of course).

You are still my little snuggler.  Even though you don't fall asleep in my arms (well, you do on occasion), I still rock you every night before bed.  I'm taking advantage while I still can! You give the best hugs too.  Before bedtime, you will go give both Emily and Daddy big hugs.  Emily loves your hugs and usually requests more than 1 each night.

You love to dance and we often will find you bouncing around the house.  You also like to crouch down and walk down low (picture a football player down in a stance).  You have learned to bear crawl and will break out in to that occastionally too.  This month you have figured out how to escape through Daddy's make shift gate on the bottom of the stairs.  You will either go over it or crawl right through it.  Luckily you know how to go all the way down the stairs on your belly.

This month you have started doing a few new things that I think are pretty funny.  You will literally spin yourself in circles just to make yourself dizzy and fall down.  You think this is hilarious and will do it over and over again.  This seems like such a boy thing to me. . .haha.  You also have started hiding things in the couch cushions.  It will be anything from snacks to toys.  We have to keep a close eye on you now when you're by the couch!

You still have a love for toys you can push.  You also love my hair dryer.  When you hear it, you will come running because you want me to "dry" your hair too.

You're still pretty picky when it comes to food.  Fruits and veggies are still popular choices with you, while meat is a hit or miss (more often a miss).

Ever since the time change your sleeping schedule has been a bit messed up.   You used to sleep in until 7:00-7:30 on the weekends and now it's more like 6:30.  I'm hoping you'll get back on schedule soon!

It's been a fun month little man and the next few will be even more exciting and busy with the holidays.  I can't wait for you to celebrate your second Thanksgiving and Christmas!  Love you!!
