Flashback Friday . . .The Story of How we Met

One of my favorite blogs that I follow does a post on Fridays called "Flashback Fridays."  The point of it is to share stories and pictures about events that happened before your blog started.  I decided to start doing Flashback Friday posts as well.  I figured I would start back at the beginning of how Shawn and I met. . .

Shawn and I met through mutual friends of ours back in the summer of 2005.  One of my best friends, Kara, was engaged to one of Shawn's good friends, Matt.  Kara called one night inviting me to go out to dinner with her, Matt, and several of Matt's friends.  Even though I had never met any of Matt's friends, I thought it might be fun, so I told her sure, I would go.  That night we went to Joe T's in Fort Worth.  I think there were 9 of us there.  Everyone was really friendly, except for one of Matt's friends. . .Shawn.  In fact, Shawn was the only one that didn't say one word to me the whole night.  I remember Kara and Matt asking me later that night what I thought of Shawn and I said, I didn't like him. . . he didn't say anything to me all night.

Well, little did I know that Shawn had a whole other idea of how the night went.  According to him, he knew from the night that he was going to marry me.  He tells me he even told his friend Justin that.  He was so sure, that he even got my number from Kara later that week.  Kara made him promise not to call me until after their wedding which was only a few weeks away just in case things didn't work out.

In the weeks between dinner and Kara and Matt's wedding, I can honestly say, Shawn never crossed my mind.  A few weeks later, I headed to the rehearsal dinner for Matt and Kara and somehow Shawn got Kara to sit him next to me at the same table.  I had brought a date, but he was only a friend.  I remember talking to Shawn, but still didn't think anything of it.  The next night at the wedding, Shawn worked up the courage to ask me for a dance.  I said sure and that's when he told me he had gotten my number from Kara and was just waiting to call me. A big group of us went out after the wedding and I got to talk to Shawn some more.  He ended up calling me the next day and the rest is history.

I don't have any pics of us from that night, but I do have pictures from my 24th b-day which was a month later.  This was such a fun night.  This was the first time he really got to hang out with my closest friends.
