Eight Months

Dear Evan,

Another month has passed and buddy, I'll be honest with you, I'm almost glad to see the last month behind us.  It's been a rough month!  I'm sad that the majority of the last month you were sick with ear infections.  In fact, you've been fighting the same ear infection almost all month (your 3rd one since Thanksgiving - we've tried 4 different antibiotics).  If the most recent one doesn't go away, there's a very good chance that tubes will be in your future.  While I hate for you to have surgery, I hate seeing you in pain even more!  Let's hope we can get the ear infections cleared up and you will be back to your happy self!  I know we're all ready for our happy Evan to be back!

Of course, due to all the ear infections, you have slept terrible this month.  In fact, I counted and you slept through the night only 4 times this month.   Mommy and Daddy are exhausted because of this. You spent many nights sleeping in your swing and often times, that didn't even help.  Nap time continues to be a work in progress.  I would say though that it's improving.  This month we've really worked on getting you to nap in your crib vs. the swing.  Usually we can get a couple 1-2 hour naps out of you in your crib on Saturdays and Sundays.   You still love to be rocked to sleep and tend to cry out when I put you down for bed before you are fully asleep.  We've also moved up your bedtime a little bit during the week, as you are usually exhausted after daycare, but refuse to catnap in your swing.  Now we usually kick off the bedtime routine around 7:15 and you're usually down between 7:30-7:45.

This has been a big month of firsts.  You have 2 teeth now (the bottom 2)!  They broke through last week, so they aren't still all the way in yet.  Of course, you started getting them as you were sick, which I'm sure made you even more fussy. :(  You have yet to let me get a picture of them, but hopefully soon.

Starting this month, you are out of your baby tub and sitting up like a big boy in the bathtub.  You still love bathtime and even more now that you can sit up and play with all the toys.  Your sister loves taking baths with you, but we only let her do it on occasion right now, as you're still a little unsteady in the bathtub.

In the last week or so, you have started trying soooo hard to pull up and even crawl!  When you are holding onto something, you can pull up to your knees, but just don't have enough strength yet to pull all the way up.  I just know if you hadn't been sick all month, you would already be pulling up.  But we'll just be patient.  When on your stomach you can push all the way up to your hands and even get your knees under you too, but again, just aren't strong enough to stay like that or move.  You do get very frustrated that you can't move and often just lunge yourself towards stuff (which often results in tears).

Your eating habits have stayed pretty consistent this month.  You still have 6 oz. in each bottle, every 3 hours.  Like other months, we aren't surprised if the bottles come back up. I'd say at least a few times a week, we get thrown up on.  You are still loving the baby food!   Once we start feeding you, we can't stop or you get upset!  There really isn't any baby food that you don't like.  You are on the stage 2 foods now and can eat a whole jar in 1 feeding.  We've also tried yogurt and you love that as well.  Since you started teething, we bought you some mum mums and at first you didn't know what to think, but now you chow down on those too.  Puffs on the other hand are a different story.  We have to force these in your mouth, but each time, you just spit them back out.  I'm sure it's just the new texture.  Hopefully soon you'll start to like these.  I'm hesitant to try table food until you will eat the puffs.  Oh and we tried out the mesh feeders this month too.  So far, we've given you mango and bananas in them and you love it.  Boy do they get you messy though!  You are still on the zantac twice a day too.

I can't believe we're down to only 4 months before we have a 1 year old.  That's so crazy to me!  Let's hope next month I'm writing about how you were healthy all month!  Love you little buddy!
