Dear Evan (my little man),
How is it that you are already 2 months old??? I really need you to stop growing so quickly! You've already changed so much in just the last month. I'm still loving every minute I get to spend with you. I'm already so sad knowing we're down to just a few weeks before I head back to work. But I'm trying to not to think about it, as I really am trying to cherish every minute I get with you during the days.
This month has been a month of firsts for you. You smiled for the first time this month. These smiles totally melt your mama's heart! And you always seem to know when I need a smile the most (ie, after a long, sleepless night). We also tried out the bumbo for the first time. You seem to like being in an upright position best, so I think we will get a lot of use out of the bumbo. While you are still working on strengthening your neck muscles, your sister is putting your bumbo seat to good use.
You still prefer to be held when you are awake. This makes it a bit difficult for me to get much done during the day, but we tried to baby bjorn out and you seem to like it. We've switched you over to Nutramigen this month and are also trying zantac for your reflux. Both seem to be helping. You don't seem to be so uncomfortable during and after feedings anymore. You do still spit up occasionally, but at least I know you aren't in pain anymore.
The last couple of weeks, you have started having lots of periods of crying during the day, but especially in the early evening. After a few long days, I think I have finally figured out that you fight going to sleep. When you get tired, you get fussy! And the more you fight it, the fussier you get. So now, I try to catch it early and swaddle you. This has seemed to help a ton! Swaddling you helps to calm you down and lets you know it's ok to go to sleep. Also, just like your mama, you prefer it to be quiet when you sleep!
You've started to become even more aware of your surroundings lately. You love to look at the mobile on your swing and at the mirror on your playmat. You love "talking" to the baby that you see in the mirror. You also like to watch my mouth when I'm talking to you. I know you're busy trying to figure out how to talk. :) You've started cooing more this month too. You still aren't a huge fan of tummy time. I insist that we spend some time on the mat each day, but you much prefer to be on your back. You have rolled over from your tummy to your back several more times this month. You tolerate a pacifier sometimes, while other times, I think it pisses you off more when we try to give you one. You seem to have a preference towards the Avent ones. You cry when you have dirty diapers, but just the wet ones don't bother you. You are still sleeping in the cradle in our room. While your stretches of sleep at night are getting longer, you're still not sleeping through the night and it's just easier having you close to us. Plus, I don't want you waking up your sister. Hopefully, we can make the transition to your room the week after we get back from CA.
Your daddy tells me that you are a total Mommy's boy already. He tells me it's very obvious that you prefer me over him. You do seem to cry much more when Daddy picks you up over me. Deep down, I love to hear that! After having a Daddy's girl already, I'm totally loving having my Mommy's boy!
We love you little man and continue to look forward to what each month brings!
